Tom Brady?
Andew Luck?
Peyton Manning?

WTH are the Raiders thinking, they should of waited until the Colts drafted Andew Luck and then offered those 2 first round picks to the Colts for Peyton Manning. Now that would of been worth it.

Talk about betting your mortgage on a guy.

With hindsight I would spend that on guys like Montana, Young, Brady, Rice, Lawrence Taylor...etc but not Carson Palmer.

I wouldn't trade 2 1sts for Manning at this point, you don't know if he's going to be able to come back and play. Carson Palmer at least has a few years left on his contract and isn't injured.

Not saying 2 1sts are worth Carson Palmer, but more so then Manning. You couldn't get Brady with two 1sts.

If they are a playoff team with Palmer and not one without is it worth it?

I honestly think they should of waited for the draft and let Boller finish the season out and see if the Rams or Colts got the 1st pick. They would have the opportunity for 3 qbs BRADFORD, MANNING & LUCK for that ransom they paid for Palmer. LMAO, this = another day that the Niners actual game against the Lions wont get talked about. WTF man

Playoff? LOL RAVEN, STEELERS, BENGALS, PATRIOTS JETS. Playing those teams you might as well miss the playoffs again. Not worth it

What year are the first round picks they'll give up?

If it we're talking about 2013 and 2016 first rounders, then a lot of guys worth those picks.

I just read the article. It's a 2012 1st rounder, and a 2013 conditional 1st rounder.

So in draft pick value, its basically a 1st and a 2nd if he plays good. That's a lot for Palmer.

If whoever team with the worse record is demanding three :third:1st round picks for the rights of Luck, I would do it in a heartbeat if I were the niners. Chicago gave 2 first and some for Cutler. I would give 3 :third:1st for Andrew Luck. It's not like we can't use our 2nd round picks in 2012/13/14 to land immediate starters (in addition to free agency).

I was getting at the value of the first rounders. A 2030 first rounder ain't worth that much in 2011.

Based on Luck's potential and the rookie cap, he has as much value as Brady right now. Probably a lot more.

And what Ray is saying is key. Luck is worth a lot more than this year's superbowl winner's next three 1st rounders. But if you're picking second overall, it's too steep to give up your next three first rounders.

Just looking at the value chart, a team in the 20's would have to give up an elite player or two along with those 3 first round picks just to get in the game.

btw - i've never gotten why a 2013 1st rounder is defined as a 2nd rounder? to me, a 1st rounder in 2013 is a 1st rounder in 2013.

Which has less value of a 2012 first rounder.

Taking it all the way down to a second round value can be questioned, but it is worth more.

Let me trade my 2020 first rounder for your 2012 first rounder. They're both first round picks so let's put this trade through, okay?

You get the use of a player now instead of waiting. Instead of being able to draft a player and develop immediately, you have to wait. You need compensation because you're giving up time without benefit of that first rounder.

It's like you win the lottery and you get $300k now, or $1mil over time.

In this case you get one draft pick now, or need multiple over time to compensate for waiting. A first round 2030 draft pick is worth a lot less to your team in today's terms.

I think when you don't make the playoffs in 10 years you have to try to win now no matter what.
