Yes, I agree he was making them as the 46% FG stat shows us. And even though his team might have been no more than average or even below average role players he didn't use them much- which brings me to my original point. When players try to force things vs. making good basketball plays they tend not to win.
The seasons Kobe did it he didn't win a title. The seasons that RW & KD have done it didn't bring them a title. They don't even typically win single games when they force the issue- as we've seen as recently as this series. The reason is because 1 guy (in this case two guys) forcing things usually can't beat a team that plays together and uses all of their resources. I'm thinking the only time this might have been different was in MJ's latter years of his career.
He tried to use them. That first post-Shaq season he averaged 6.0 APG. But Clayton is right, he had to be a high volume shooter for them to have a chance at winning. He was playing with the likes of Smush Parker and Kwame Brown. Two horrible players. They weren't going to win anymore games if Kobe tried to get them more involved.
He could force things back then because no one could stop him. He could literally rise up and get a jumpshot against anybody anytime and anywhere on the floor. Didn't even matter if he was double or triple teamed. That was still a better shot than giving the ball to frying pan hands Brown.
