Tucker is in way over his head, he might be ok for a team trying to rebuild and no one cares anyway but for a team that has been a Defensive land mark for years, No way!

I thought the offense was very good just a couple of stupid turnovers which really hurt. I can deal with the run to pass ratio we did a lot of dump offs which were basically like runs anyway.

I thought the d looked better than last season but the LBs all of them were non existent as far as the line goes they played solid just got gashed on a couple of run plays which I put on the LBs anyway. I thought Tillman and Jennings played ok without being great Mundy was solid and Conte was much better than last year.

All in all though I have to say that is probably the most disappointed I have ever been after a bears game that was a game we should never have lost

I thought the offense was ok. But Both time cutler threw picks, the first one , I knew we should have run it that play. it was kinda on Bennett but it could have been avoided. The second one was just stupid. throw it away! and live another down. or he should have run it himself and went out of bounds, first down or not , But he threw that one right into Mayhem..

How predictable from you. Just passably throw the blame on Cutler.

What's where we left off from last year? Last time I checked, Cutler played a hell of a game vs GB to leave off last year. Just shows how bias you are.

And it what offense is a 50-18 run ratio good? None.

:agree:

He threw more picks then games played and looked off all day. For the money being paid he isn't producing. Does that sum it up?

Passing the ball 50 times to 18 rushes .

All I ask is that fans don't jump off of the edge after a week 1 OT loss.
Sorry Rich but I'm gonna have to over react. Fire Tdog and Emily, let the rebuild begin. Maybe give Cutler a extra 100 mil and bring in some more old guys that used to be good ends. Were gonna waste all this offensive talent.

Cutler was part of the problem today. You can't throw 4 balls right to the other team in a game. You just can't do that.

I don't subscribe to the logic that he's paid X so that means he shouldn't do Y or Z. He's a human being with strengths and weaknesses, which don't change based on his paycheck.

Mills was getting beaten on his corner. And with 2 substitutions on the inside (although I'm not sure De La Puente is real different from Garza) the pass pro wasn't the most effective against Buffalo's good DL. This caused Cutler to revert to old habits of trying to squeeze panicky throws in instead of throwing the ball away when nothing was there. How many balls did he throw away yesterday?

Like I said in the other thread, I cannot get over the same fucking snap count on every offensive play, you think if they just go on first sound every once in a while they would catch the opponents on their heels.

Defense was improved, saw Mundy all over the place, saw the d line keeping linemen off linebackers, saw Jared Allen firing up the crowd, doing little else, but it was a Tucker vanilla game.

193 rush yards allowed at 5.0 ypc. Whats improved about that?

Cutler threw 4 balls to the other team. We were fortunate that they only caught 2 of them. That's not good QB play. Of course, there were other factors that contributed to that like Mills getting beat and OL injuries. The Bills deserve some credit for having a good DL. Our D and STs have room for criticism as well.

But I'd say if Cutler throws balls away instead of to the guys in the wrong color shirts, we win that game in regulation and we're having a whole different conversation today. Next week's game may be different. But in week 1, Cutler was part of the problem.

I understand your point about a more balanced run/pass ratio. That's my preference as well. But the WCO substitutes a lot of short throws to the RB for running plays. And our OL is just better at pass blocking than run blocking. We're not hurting teams with our running game. Haven't for some time. Our passing game with the best WR tandem in the league, a productive TE and Forte--another strong player in the pass game--is what really hurts teams. I don't blame Trestman for playing to his strength.

It wasnt 300 and they only gave up 23 points, less if you dont count getting right back on the field after an turnover.

Its not that he throws bad passes, its after the game when it is clearly time to say "I" have to play better, its always "we" have to play better after a loss. We is when you win, not when you are the reason they lost. Pretty sure 54 million should at least buy a vowel like "I".

But in week 1, Cutler was part of the problem.
He was absolutely part of the problem yesterday.
He was absolutely not all of the problem yesterday.

He gets that laid at his feet cos he's the quarterback, and cos he's a bit of an ass, and cos he's got a rich contract. And cos some people will never, ever forgive him for any of the three.

Like I said in a previous post, the blame shouldn't go squarely on the defense. The offense put the Bears the defense in terrible positions 3 times with turnovers. You can't expect to win games like that against anyone when that happens. 3 turnovers gave the Bills 13 points.

I agree. In a tight game the team that makes the fewest mistakes usually gets the W. Theres plenty of blame to spread around.

I'm shocked Mel Tucker is getting a pass here (he certainly didn't with Buffone and OB) in their post game however.

If Rivera gets fired or one of the Ryan brothers gets cut loose we should get them asap as our next DC

Jim Leavitt... LB coach of the 49ers. Read up on this guy, he'll be an OUTSTANDING DC.

I know the worry with promoting assistant coaches to coordinators or coordinators to head coaches is the Peter Principle... but this guy was the head coach (the inaugural head coach) at the University of South Florida for 16 years where he took a team that should have been Division 2 and had them ranked as high as number 2 in the country thanks to their defense. If he could handle designing and offense, defense, special teams, off-season work program, recruiting and hiring a coaching staff... all of the things that go into being a Division 1 HC, he could handle being a coordinator. (He was let go over some controversy about him being too tough on his players)

At SF, as the LB coach, he has a unit that boasted 3 first team All-Pro's and one second team All Pro in 2012 (they did pretty well in 2013 as well... but the 2012 accolades need to be noted)... and against a very solid Dallas offense with two of his best LBs out (Aldon Smith and Navarro Bowman), the unit still looked rock solid.

With a young group of LBs who need some help (I like the Keith Herring hire a lot, by the way... no knock on him) that is about to be without Lance Briggs... get this guy to be the DC and transform the second layer of the defense into something beastly. That's my pitch for Jim Leavitt.

Scripted or not, it was still a head scratching play. Don't have to outsmart everyone all the time...

Regarding the flea flicker... I was in WTF mode on that one but I'll give Trestman the benefit of the doubt. A lot of plays he runs early in games are designed to see how defenses react so he knows what to exploit later. The only problem I had with it was we didn't seem to want to run it on 3rd and 1 later in the game... you would have thought the whole purpose of running a play like that is to keep safeties back a little bit when you're in an "and 1" situation because they'd fear a play action pass or another flea flicker. But Trestman is a smart coach and I don't know what I he saw or didn't see from that play and how it affected the success of other plays called later on in the game.

55Briggs... last week someone posted something asking for opinions about Briggs and his restaurant opening. This morning on the Spiegel and Mannely show they said that they had an unimpeachable source's account that the Friday night before the game Briggs was out at 4 in the morning buy rounds of shots. He didn't look particularly good out there yesterday.

What is your take on all of this? Is it all connected somehow? I ask you because of your handle... you're an obvious fan of his. But does he not give quite enough of a shit about what's going on?

I should have put "unimpeachable" in quotes since that was what Matt Spiegel said. For the record, I don't know who the hell he was talking about and I can't treat his opinion on it as gospel. So there's that.

Actually, I thought the protection was solid yesterday despite the injuries. Part of me hopes that when the dust settles, De la Puenta settles in as our center and Garza moves over to Guard... but that's another story. As much as we threw the ball and went down field, I was impressed with the protection. And that was a plus defensive line.
