Well I would certainly see we’ve been under performing for our talent level. That’s all coaching and culture.
Chasing stars didn't work out so well for Mack Brown.
Chasing stars didn't work out so well for Mack Brown.
Then why recruit them? The talent has to pan out also. 5* athletes w 2* brains & attitude happen all the time
It worked okay for a while. At the end, chasing stars didn't work out so well for Mack Brown.
It worked okay for a while.
At the end, not only did it not work out, it was a complete disaster.
That happens to most coaches. If you stay at a place for 10 years that is pretty much a home run for any coach. I am not a huge Mack fan, but the guy had a great career as a coach.

Think Mack will be better at UNC than than what happened in the latter years at Texas?Yep. He just got complacent and comfortable.
Like I said, I wouldn't put TOO much stock into this season to say he can't be very successful(he did well at Washington State). I don't think he's a great recruiter though and he didn't put much effort into recruiting Texas(which has recently become a Buckeye pipeline and a DEFINITE OU pipeline). Hell we even had a prospect beg Ohio State to recruit him since Grinch didn't even attempt to:
5-star prospect asks Ohio State to recruit him after Grinch exit
Yeah a lot of Buckeye fans aren't too high on Grinch and I can see why.

A few of these "old successful coaches" at new schools have worked out a little, but not many.No. I think the game has just passed him

I just don't see Mack or Miles working out at the new places. We shall see.
Really? National title and 10 years or something of 10 wins or more. Guy is in the hall of fame. Yes, sucked to be Mack Brown.
And then Saban broke him and your program has been broke since.
And at that time, Saban had 0 #1 recruiting classes.
You make me laugh. Just admit you said something stupid. It certainly isn’t the first time and I am 100% positive it won’t be the last.
I'm not changing my opinion that chasing stars is what killed Mack Brown or Texas, and I really don't give a shit if you agree with that or not.
Gene Chizick has won a national championship, so fucking what.
Guy is in the fall of fame, so hard to say something killed him. Chasing stars didn’t kill Brown. You are simply talking out your ass per usual
The Longhorns have landed 51 ESPN 150 recruits since 2009 and 77 four- and five-star recruits since 2010. Brown's 2013 roster had just as many former four-star recruits as Alabama.
From 2013, the year he was run off and could have paid Saban $10 million if you wanted, but as usual didn't.
Mack Brown a game-changer in recruiting
And yet you went 8-5 that year. You had talent and after Texas lost to Alabama, they no longer had a clue what to do with it. And if you go back to what I was responding to in the first damn place, it was a discussion about Oklahoma having good talent and poor results.
So say what you want, don't care - not changing my position. Yes I know you won a national championship with Vince Young, and Gene Chizik won a national championship with Cam Newton. That doesn't take away the rest of their careers.
