I just can't imagine a scenario where the committee disincentivizes a team to make their conference title game

If you're sitting at 8 and lose a 3 pt game on a last second kick and drop behind a team who didn't make their league title game i think that's sending a message the committee isn't going to want to send

BUT it's Bama. If it were literally just about any other team id think SMU was a lock. But it's Bama

The committee is going to go out of their way to put Bama in because it is Bama. They haven’t earned it, but they are Bama and the tv ratings will be higher with Bama than SMU

The committee is worried about establishing a precedent about championship games.
But, I think they already established a precedent with Indiana.


There is zero price to pay for a bad OOC schedule that was scheduled badly......not just one that accidentally turned out badly.
Teams might as well schedule the easiest possible OOC schedule imaginable going forward.

Indiana played nobody OOC.
much worse Indiana purposely scheduled nobody OOC.

Imagine if SMU & CLEMSON had not scheduled (BYU, GEORGIA, SouthCar)
Replace them with Southern Utah, Furman, and SC State

We might never see good OOC games again soon.

If Bama gets in over SMU it will be a complete joke that will expose how biased the playoff committee is for Bama. Punishing SMU for a close loss in a conference title game would be fucking insane, and it would set a precedent that it’s best to not play in conference title games. But it feels like ESPN and most of the media wants Bama in it and so it wouldn’t shock me if they put Bama in.
