Rangers purchased Mike Olt's contract today and he is reporting to the team tomorrow. To make room for the move, Brandon Snyder was optioned to the minors. Thoughts? Expectations?

I guess it's time to see if the man lives up to the hype. I for one think he just might, and am eager to see him play in Arlington.

Hope Beltre isnt hurt. My thoughts.... haha.

Not expecting much to be honest. Low expectations = surprised later. Hope he gets some AB's to prove himself.

Snyder to AAA, makes room on the 25 man, but not the 40 man

My guess C. lewis to the 60 day DL

This move only makes sense if they plan on sitting Young some and others not performing, otherwise this is a pointless gesture

I don't follow Twitter much, but here is what Brandon Snyder tweeted to Mike Olt tonight:

"Congrats brother, you deserve it! Hold down the fort till I make it back will ya!!"

I thought that was a very classy move on Snyder's part. Getting sent back down has to be hard, and he took the time to congratulate the guy taking his place. It just goes to show what a great family the Rangers have and how they pull for one another. It wasn't a huge deal, but Snyder definitely earned a few extra points in my book there. Seems like a cool guy.

That is a great attitude to have, Snyder impresses me again.

The 1st is when his wide came on with Jim Knox and talked about their organization that supports wounded soldiers by making bracelets.

He's one of those guys I will certainly root for in the future.

I'm betting of it was up to wash Olt would sit just like Snyder. But I'm betting JD had a conversation with wash telling him he didn't bring Olt up so he could sit him.

Maybe it is in order to make it more difficult for someone to request Olt in an August trade? Now he has to be listed as PTBNL, or I guess passed through waivers but that will never ever happen.

Wash is an idiot. Hard to argue that point.

For some Wash getting credit is like Jerry getting credit for the SB wins. I like most of the posters here (all but one and that one is obvious), but it annoys me when people can say someone is responsible for all the bad, but the good was either luck or someone else.

Olt will get his chances but don't expect Wash to change what has got him and the Rangers to 2 WS and to a 4-game lead so far this season. hopefully Olt sees some good times at 1st and 3rd and MY sees no time at either but as much as most on here hope he gets buried at the end of the bench for the rest of the season Wash will continue to use Young as his major DH option

Interesting thought I hadn't considered. I think it was a done deal as soon as TEX acquired Soto and with the compelling need for a new hot bat. There were lots of veteran bats being tossed around as trade targets before the deadline ... but Olt brings for the price of his contract lots more on two corners plus is dialed in right now so could turn out to have the hot second half that CD did back in 2008.

Snyder wasn't the guy to displace MY in the lineup ... but Olt's elevation is an entirely different thing. As others have said ... they didn't buy his contract, make room for him on the 40man ... and send a sitting Snyder down to AAA ... if Olt wasn't going to get significant playing time.

PADMY is going to see lots of nights off from this day onward. This is the day it all changed.

i don't see this happening. you are going to see Ott at 1st and probably 3rd but if you believe that Wash is going to bench MY in favor of player with absolutely no major league experience and prone to the strikeout you are dreaming. Olt will serve the same purpose that snyder did but with a better bat

IMO, its to see if the JD & crew need to go out and find a RH bench bat before the trade waiver deadline

LOL, I have another oddball theory to throw out there. Maybe they are going to send him out with two options: Either he gets on fire and does so well we have to play/keep him, or he flames out so bad other teams stop asking for him. :)

Or he's auditioning for a trade this winter. :boink:
