I think VT is best available to the B1G. Face it, football revenue is what butters the bread and pays for all the non revenue generating sports.

They're a good fit in academics, will add more eyeballs on BTN from Virginia, and enhance the new tv market in DC.

I guess understanding where primary 'state schools' are geographically located isn't one of your strong suits.

If you haven't gotten it by now, you never will.

lol... i understand the revenue portion of the addition... and when have we ever discussed "primary state schools" in the past...

i know you get your kicks by acting superior on a message board, but i think you may have me confused with someone else...

And no it's not desperation. It is preference and a good fit for both.

It's a great fit for both. I'm sure Delaney is doing his homework. He'll get a look at what VT is doing academically to get into the AAU and beyond, and he'll throw the presidents a pitch. When he kicked off conference expansion, I think he sensed that things were headed this direction, and he has a plan.

I remember two years ago when all of the sudden Nebraska was giving the Big 12 the finger, and we were all like, "Oh shit....did Delaney see this coming? Is he the biggest troll in Big 12 history? Because we just got Nebraska after it looked like Missouri.."

Even Nebraska helps the BTN when establishing new markets, because of their national brand. It's really interesting. Also I was just reading that our network contracts come up in 2016. If they get Notre Dame and VT on board, the negotiations will be ridiculously stacked in our favor. I'm talking two major networks shoveling cash into freight trains by the ton, and the B1G saying..."Okay you're both in." LOL

isn't UVA already a member of AAU?

They are, actually they are pretty huge academically, but VT is more popular statewide and in DC. You have a point, though, considering all Delaney really wants is to make the cable providers feel comfortable with the BTN. I don't think he wants to share with the SEC, though.

:L Apparently you don't understand.

I have you confused with nobody. I took your post for what it was. Pure ignorance.

How would adding UVA to the B1G over Rutgers and Maryland have enhanced the chances of BTN being added to tv packages in NY/NJ (#1 tv market) and Baltimore/DC (#4 tv market)?

Let's hear it slick.

The one curve ball I can see is basketball. Basketball is a big part of the BTN ratings through March, and NYC is much more interested in college basketball than football in general. I could see Syracuse getting a phone call. As long as Notre Dame is still the ultimate target, that wouldn't leave any room for VT.

IMO, now that the B1G has their foot in the door of those markets, they'll go after 2 more schools that have more football appeal.

Read the rest of the thread to see my opinion on VT to the B1G. To sum it up, why wouldn't the B1G want to seal up DC metro and pretty much all of Virginia?
