Isn't the deal with Mangini that he basically scouts the Niners' offense as if he were the opposition defensive coach, then works with Roman based on those observations?

Yep and he's supposedly the when to challenge dude as well......

If we have Roman or Fangio leave, I choose Roman! I think he's great, but I'd rather stick with our DC!

So if Roman becomes a HC does Mangini become the OC next year?

Since Donatell has almost gotten a DC job in the past two years I believe Mangini is insurance in case one of our defensive coaches gets plucked.

If Donatell goes Mangini would slide right into being a secondary coach since he has experience there and if Fangio goes I think Donatell would slide into the DC spot and Mangini would again become the secondary coach.

I am torn on this... When Roman is on he seems good, but he seems to either at times go to cute with trick plays and goes way to conservative with too small of a lead. I think he is a good coordinator but with a tendency to come out aggresive then when he gets ahead switches to playing not to lose. I think this is what frustrates me about him. I see the aggressiveness to lead off the games would like to see it to put games away.

Roman won't be the last good OC to come around, if he goes, he goes... so be it, I had enough of his stupid redzone playselection.... I'm good if he goes or stays..

Fangio, I want him to stay.

Mangini can't be with this organization any further.

He would be a good fit for either team. I think Wash more because they have the running game and the Mobile QB and a Defense he can work with.

I want him to leave I just hope its not one of those things where the grass isn't greener on the other side kind of thing. or u don't know what you had until its gone.

I'm okay with them departing provided we have a succession plan. Change can be good. We need the next evolution of our offense and defense. People are always scheming and I want people chasing us and not the other way around. Same as business. Evolve or die.

I also want Fangio gone. Give me Mangini. With the talent on D we shouldnt have so many hiccups during the game. D cost us the superbowl last year and Im afraid that we might not win this year because of them.

You know what, I had it backwards......just happened to come across this piece while reading something on Grantland:

By working with the offense, he is giving the unit a strong feel on opposing defenses and how to exploit them. Mangini thinks like a defensive coordinator, but now from an offensive viewpoint. This could become a bigger trend in the NFL -- or put Mangini back on the map for a bigger role in the future.

Eric Mangini fitting in as San Francisco 49ers assistant coach - ESPN

So he's scouting the opposition defense then coordinating with Roman in that way.

don't you mean he would see the ball all the time. Roman is known for running the ball.

I would love to lose Roman and hate to lose Fangio. Although in a perfect world I would prefer a DC who is a little more creative and an OC who is a little less creative.

Who would be better than Roman? Geep? Grass isnt always greener and it's never good to learn a new system. That's why I think it would be Geep if Roman left. But then we need a QB coach. Any ideas on those?

The hate Roman gets is ridiculous IMO.

People look at offensive yard rankings to see how good an offense is. That's dumb. Teams who play a lot of hurry-up are going to have better offensive stats & worse defensive stats. And the reverse is true when teams play a slow offense like the Niners do.

The offense has been doing fine since Crabtree got back (not to mention Mike Iupati).
