I don't think trading Horton is a move that the B's would go with. Vanek needs to join the existing roster, they don't need to change the look of an already successful team.

The Sabres will need youth and picks more than anything.

I wasn't talking about trading Horton. I was answering the Bruins cap question situation. The three players I mentioned are UFA's & make a bit more than Vanek's 7.1M salary. The Bruins would be able to keep him next season without any problem.

7.1 is a tough hit. He kinda is prone to getting dinged up a lot. I sure would not mind seeing him on our powerless power play though.

If I was a betting man, and I sure as hell am, that's more money than Jacobs wants to pay anyone other than Chara.

Well the Bruins have some good young players who are getting big league experience as we speak.

Jacobs has said he does not mind at all if the Bruins spend to the cap.

I have mixed feeling on this one tbh. He is a great player and may be the piece we need to get over the hump. I am concerned that he may be injury prone. Bossman did mention that in Buffalo he takes all the abuse. As a member of the Bruins he would not.

In the end I am a all in kinda guy. If he is available bring him to Boston

It's not the cap I was referring to, I meant I have doubts about a salary that big for one player, especially where we'll have to deal with Seguin at some point among others.

Seguin is under contract till 2019. Not a issue.

Puck Dady's talking about this now too - Y! SPORTS

“To me, there’s different types of rebuild. There’s rebuilds like the Penguins and the Oilers did, consistently draft in the top five, or you go and get good players through trades, free agency and rebuild your team quicker in the summer. ... Rebuild is not a bad word, it’s just which direction you choose to go.”

It wouldn't surprise me if he sticks it out in Buffalo. He doesn't seem too eager to go.

From the Buffalo News today. I would hate to see him go I feel if he had some talented line mates he's a superstar and a lot of teams would love this guy he just doesn't have the talent around him here and look at his numbers even though he has played far less games he is on par with (point wise) JMO...

Thomas Vanek knows the Sabres are in position for a rebuild. He also knows he might not be part of it.

General Manager Darcy Regier has talked during the past two days of looking toward the future, which might leave the team's leading scorer as a trade target before Wednesday's deadline.

"Every year you think about that, but obviously this year probably more than any other year because of the position we’re in and one year left on my contract," Vanek, who will miss tonight's game against Boston with an upper-body injury, said in First Niagara Center. "Obviously, you think about it, but at the same time it’s part of the business. If it happens, it happens, and we’ll move on.

"You never like to. I’ve raised my family here. I enjoy where I’m at, but I understand the situation. I’m not sure. I haven’t talked to anyone about what their plan is. Again, it’s something you can’t control. Again, if it happens, you move on and you help whatever team you move on to. If you stay here, I’ll do the same things I’ve been doing for the last eight years."

More, worth the read..........Vanek wants to stay with Sabres but would 'look the other direction' if Buffalo decides on long-term rebuild - Sabres Edge | The Buffalo News

Kudos to the Sabres management for not running to the press and fucking it up like Howson did with Nash. This sounds eerily familiar. "I don't want to go, but if you feel I have to..."

I don't know that he should be moved. Wouldn't it be nice to see them add some young talent to grow around Vanek instead? They could definitely get a lot of value in a trade, but I think that he's still young enough to survive a rebuild and make a few runs once they're built back up.

At some point you have to think the mere conversation would have poisoned the situation. It could come to a point they have to move him.

But I'm probably still a little bitter over a premature move in recent times...

A trade within the division? That would be tough for Darcy to do.

If he trades him to Columbus, it's not even in the conference. Yet. I would LOVE to have Vanek as part of the rebuild here. With Anisimov and Dubinski? Or Atkinson and Johansen? Oh lord.

That could be a "one piece" rebuild. A true sniper could make this Jackets team very dangerous.

I'd even give up NYR or LA pick and a young defender not named Prout or Murray.

I can say though, that alienating your best player isn't the best way to start it. But that might only apply when one of the best hockey minds ever is about to be released from his contract and will come take your job and bitch slap you in the process...

I'm frightened to even look at the trade trackers ahead of the deadline with Regier still at the helm.

He'll find a way to fuck it up.

Looks like the rumors about LA scouts following the Sabres was true. Sabres send Robyn Regehr to the Kings for their next two round two draft picks.

That's surprisingly a pretty fair trade in my eyes. :wtf2:

I thought so too, now with those picks the one they got for Brennen and a couple for Leopold they are stock piling them. I just hope Darcy isn't the GM to use them. :yahoo:

So no first or second rounder for LA this year?

Not sure they are thinking this all the way through.

Unless they intend to deal Bernier for someone else's first and second.
