Because Ginobili is a bitch and Tony Parker is one of the top 5 most overrated guards in NBA history. Bruce Bowen was dirty as hell. About the only person I respect from those teams is Duncan.

I haven’t watched tonight’s episodes yet, I’m recording it.

Oh. Then I won't spoil it for you, but what prompted Grant's comment the Spurs never did

Bowen would be about the 5th dirtiest player on those Pistons teams

Isaiah Thomas excuse making for not shaking hands was so damn lame.

They should have shook hands simply for the fact that the Bulls shook their hands in the previous 2 years after being eliminated by detroit.

Shit.

Bowen would have been considered soft on that team.

Still crazy to me that people glorify that era and that brand of play. It is disgraceful. The NBA took way too long to stop it. The game of basketball is meant to flow. The Pistons ruined that for about a decade.

Yeah, I was kind of buying it when he said "that's not how it was passed at the time. You lost, you left the floor".

But then they showed the Bulls congratulating the Pistons the previous 2 seasons. So yeah, it was pretty lame.

I'd have more respect if he'd have just said something like "Hey, we didn't like them, we were pissed, we left".

I agree to a point.

My favorite era was the 80's and not just because of Showtime. I thought the game had a good mix of the flowing style that teams are playing with today and the physicality of the 90's.

What I did like about the 90's was that the animosity seemed genuine, especially in the East. That added a level of excitement that made it a lot of fun. Games between the Bulls, Pistons, Knicks, Cavs and later, the Heat were must see tv at the time.

It was also pretty lame when he said that the Celtics didn’t shake their hands when they were beat a few years prior. The difference was the fans started to rush the court and the players and coaches were escorted away for security reasons.

The 80s definitely had good flow. But as soon as you allow some of the non-basketball physical stuff, teams start to take advantage in the way that the Pistons did and you are left with a lesser product.

I think the main reason you see less animosity and fewer true rivalries today has nothing to do with physicality. I believe that is all about free agency. Teams just don’t stay together for years and years like they used to. Hatred builds with familiarity. Rosters change so quickly these days, there isn’t enough time to build it up.

Agree. I think AAU ball has a lot to do with it too.

I remember reading the book about Magic and Bird. They knew "of" each other, but they didn't "know" each other and had never actually met other than briefly when they played in the NCAA title game.

All they knew was that they were always being compared to each other, always being reminded of what the other guy did and so they were always trying to outdo each other, which led to them not liking each other. They started becoming friends when they shot the Converse commercial.

These days, guys are meeting and playing on the same team with each other long before they ever get to the NBA.

It's probably mostly good that it's like that. We are seeing combinations of players on teams that in the 80's you'd dream about, but could never see happen.

But I do miss some of the animosity guys used to have. It always made hating the other team easier. lol

I don't think you'd see things like Isaiah Thomas supposedly being left off the Dream Team because MJ and Pippen didn't like him with today's players.

How could you not like the 90s style ball? That was a man's sport. Now it is flopping and breathe on someone you get a foul. The 90s was the best decade in the history of the NBA.
