If they only wanted him for one year they would have just franchised him. The deal is loaded to be cap friendly for two years because the Eagles have no intention of letting him go. One of two things happen. Bradford plays great and gets a long time deal. He play ok football and the Eagles draft a QB next year (if they do not get one this year) and let him sit a year behind Bradford to learn.

My numbers were worst case scenario if he's cut pre June 1st. I doubt he gets the 4M 2017 roster bonus, problem is if he's cut next season he would have made 31M for one season.
You are all over the place and saying a lot of wrong stuff. I'm not going to correct it incident by incident. Read through this thread and you'll see numbers that are lot more accurate than the ones you are throwing about.

Yup. This deal is much better than the tag. A much smaller cap hit in 2016 and we still have his rights at the end of it. We can choose then to extend him or to pay him about what the QB franchise tag will be in 2017.

Sam just turned 28. When this deal is up he could be in line for a 120 million contract. And this gives him pretty good money over the next two years in case he doesn't play well or gets hurt.
He will get hurt. That is his MO. I hope we get rid of Sanchez and groom another QB by draft or trade. during the next two years.

As good a deal we could make without overcompensating - at least gives us more flexibility than franchising him. Similar to what Washington did w/ Cousins, basically Bradford is on a "prove it" (albeit an expensive one) trial; if he lights it up, throws for 4500+ yards and take us deep into playoffs next year, he's in line for a big deal and we would likely have the inside track to give him that. Having said that, I'm not holding my breath for it to happen, but ya never know...

Quite a deal after seeing Flacco's ridiculous deal.

If the line can keep him from getting killed and the wrs stop leading the league in drops Sam will do a good job.

For those who don't like the 2 year deal ... is it because of the contract #'s or because you have a better plan? What better option out there would make the Eagles more competitive for the upcoming season or two? It's not like the Bradford deal prevents us from taking a QB in this draft ... We pick at 13, it's not like we were guaranteed our top option at QB there.

Per spotrac his 2017 cap hit is 22.5M
Sam Bradford

Now if he's released before he's on the 2017 roster his dead money will be 9.5M and that's if he's a post June 1st cut spreading his cap hit over two seasons. If he's released pre June 1st he will count 18.5M dead money against the 2017 cap.

How anyone dislikes the deal is difficult to understand. Fifteen teams are usually looking for a QB and we have a two year rental that could go great or at least give us time to find one. Quite the luxury really.

I like the Eagles but I don't think Bradford is the answer at QB. His injury history speaks for itself.

It will be interesting to see what plays out here.

The way you are explaining that is wrong. I'm not actually sure which premise you are wrong on so I'm not going to try to decipher it. If he's cut next February the Eagles will have a 9.5 cap hit in 2017 but that's not really relevant anyway. They didn't make this deal to get rid of him, they're hoping he performs.

If we're just trying to stay relative this is a great deal….unless of course he gets injured, again

The 9.5 cap it is if he's a post June 1st cut, cutting players after June 1st spreads the remaining guaranteed money + the remaining bonus money over 2 years. There is no doubt that if he's cut it will be after June 1st. If he's cut prior to June 1st (highly doubtful) all guaranteed remaining money and remaining bonus money counts against the cap in that year. You have to remember only 1/2 of his signing bonus counts against 2016, the other half counts against the 2017 cap. Bonus are spread evenly over the contract up to 5 years.
I'm not trying to be a dick here, just giving a counter point.

Why does this even matter? So what he has a cap hit of $22 million next year. That number is close to what the franchise tag will be. What the Eagles did was get a lower cap hit this year so they can make some moves via free agency or possibly to get some money to get Cox a new deal.

The top 20 QB's contracts in the NFL has no one with an average of under $17 mil. QB cap hits are high. Does not get any simpler than that.

I'm not trying to be a dick either, but you are not right. If they cut him after June 1st in 2017 the 5.5 left of the prorated signing bonus would be cut in half, spreading 2.75 of it onto the 2018 cap. If that's not what you are saying then I'm not sure what your point is. I'm still not sure why you brought June 1st into it, and that would be after the roster bonus anyway further complicating your story. Sam's getting 22 guaranteed, 18 million of which he gets this year and 12.5 of which hits the cap. 22 - 12.5 = 9.5.

Yes his 5.5 remaining bonus and his 2017 salary would be split over two year. It's not exactly split 50/50 and no I don't know the split formula.

Also FWIW I don't think your being a dick, we're just having a conversation. I should have directed my I'm not a dick comment at Mall, but I don't want to get into a trolling argument. With that in mind I think it's time I exit this board and leave you all alone.
