So if 12.5 mill is the cap hit this year then are we looking at a 26.5 million hit next year if we keep him or a 9.5 million in dead money if we cut him?
I'm not sure about the 2017 base salary. I don't think it's been reported yet. Apparently there's a good bit of incentives driving some of that. I'm not sure the 36 number was accurate. It could be though. It's within reason. 26.5m in 2017 seems like a lot until we factor in the expected cap increases and also the possibility that Bradford performs how Pederson wants him to and he gets a big deal (120+) from the Eagles next year, restructuring that cap hit.

The Eagles saved around 7 million in cap space this year by signing him to the two year deal as opposed to Franchising him. It buys us the 13th pick in the draft when you consider we likely would have been forced to use it to either take a QB at 13 or use that pick to trade up (which would have involved even more picks). This move makes it possible to now get Cox done; we will have a ton of positions locked up with solid young players. Worse case scenario Bradford doesn't work out and we have to deal with the 9 mil cap hit next season (with the cap going up every year and most core players locked up we can survive it). If he works out though we likely just extend him in 2017 where the money for 2017 under this contract gets redistributed and the cap hit again will be under 15 mil. imo it's certainly a win-win for both sides.

HOLY SHIT...26.5 next year. That's fucking brutal. So we backload a 2 year contract that makes him a top paid QB next year or we eat 10 million...Brilliant fricken idea.

If he works out the Eagles would no doubt extend him after the season to spread that out. If he doesn't work out we eat the 9+ cap hit, but since his cap hit is only 12.5 this year it would cost us only around 2 mil more total than if we would have Franchised him (would have been almost a 20 mil cap hit in 2016).

Looks like a 23.5m cap hit next year. 14 base salary + 4m roster bonus + 5.5 prorated signing bonus.

Again surprised at the love for a guy who has a way to go to reach average IMO with an obvious injury history. Team had no choice and QBs get paid but the Tweet that it's front loaded and the Eagles can get out of the Sam Bradford business after year 1 with little impact looks to be off point.

Not a big fan that we re-signed bradford, here comes 8-8 if we are lucky.

However.... if they draft Hogan and is the heir apparent, that changes my thoughts on having Sam here as he is only temporary solution.

Wrong. 2017 is fully guaranteed. If Bradford makes the 2017 roster he will count 22M against the cap, if he doesn't make the roster he counts 18M against the cap. His contract is FAR from front loaded.

The 22 Guaranteed I think is divided up between base and bonuses. The guy who tweeted that the contract is front loaded is indeed wrong, but I'm fairly certain that the cap hit for 2017 if cut will be under 10 mil as his base isn't guaranteed.

Rotoworld and spotrac. I may be off a little on the overall cap hits but if he's on the 2017 roster he get a 4M bonus + his 13M salary and 1/2 of his buns counts that year. His 2017 13M salary is guaranteed if he plays or not, so his 2017 dead money will depend if he's a post June 1st cut. If he's cut pre June 1st all of the money on the books counts against the cap in 17. If he's a post June 1st cut, the dead money is spread over 17 and 18.

If the Bradford decision backfires, the Eagles can cut the quarterback loose in 2017, having only paid him $22 million. The reported $26 million "guaranteed" isn't fully due at signing, with $4 million of that through a roster bonus due next March, per Andrew Brandt.

Although the Eagles would save $14 million in cap money if they cut him in 2017.

Because Bradford's cap hit in the first year of his deal is so small, it skyrockets in the second season to $23.5 million. However, it seems unlikely the Eagles would ever pay that as they'd probably restructure the deal if they decide they want him long term.

My numbers were worst case scenario if he's cut pre June 1st. I doubt he gets the 4M 2017 roster bonus, problem is if he's cut next season he would have made 31M for one season.

Pretty sure he would just end up with the 22 Guaranteed. 2 mil more than he would have made under the Franchise Tag ... I'm pretty sure the Eagles don't care about the extra 2 mil to retain his rights for the extra year in case he works out.

I think this deal means a couple of things here. Now that the QB situation is resolved for now. I see the writing on the wall here of Jason Peters will get either traded or cut to save money to extend Cox. We will draft Conklin with our pick imo. We will draft a QB or 2 somewhere in the mid rounds to develop.
