There was a report a day or two ago about Foles taking a small lead on Trubisky in the QB competition. It was noted that Trubisky continues to show the accuracy and decisiveness issues he always has.

After the reports that he's in great shape and more focused coming into this season, considering the same problems are still showing, it's time to stick a fork in him. If Trubisky was going to take a step, he would have done it already this being his 3rd year in the offense with a rapport already built with his teammates. In other words, for Trubisky to have won the job, he likely had to come out of the blocks hot and look like a new man, which hasn't happened.

Foles to start, Trubisky to back him up. I guess if there's any hope left at all for Trubisky after that it's that some miracle happens after having sat on the bench for some number of games watching Foles (hopefully) run the offense to an acceptable level.

I totally agree that it's time to give another QB (Foles) an opportunity.

That being said - this thread is ripe for a "damn, this looks silly" bump in a week or two. lol

14 practices 90 minutes in duration is not a lot. I could still see them beginning the year with Mitch. In any other season, I agree. It would be Foles, easily.

In my humblest of humble opinions, it's the accuracy issue that will have doomed Trubisky if it turns out he starts the season riding pine. To me, that's always been the big kahuna when it came to his problems as a starting QB. I can live with the happy feet, I can live with him throwing into tight coverage - hell, Brett Favre made a career of doing that. But it's the accuracy, especially on throws where the receiver is wide open or when there's no real pressure from the pass rush. That's simply inexcusable. If you can't hit an open target in this league, you have no business being in this league.

At this time last year we were talking about this guy as a possible for MVP candidate...

noon still believes...Maybe Mitch is like Santa and if we all believe, boom...We're flying.

Or we can just jump on the BDN express and take the given rather than roll the dice with Mitch...

That kinda works when YOU HAVE THE BEST DEFENSE IN THE LEAGUE.

But f*ck it. I like Santa...and I like Mitch. So let's burn this mother f*cker down.

Look, if he is named the starter. I am willing to wipe the slate clean one last time. I've never seen a QB with this many questions heading into year #4 of (full-time) starting wind-up a true franchise guy. However, there's a first time for everything... I guess? And it's not like he's Jamarcus Russell or Ryan Leaf bad. lol. To this point, I would say he has played like a really ideal backup. Maybe that can develop into "average to okay starter"? That's his ceiling, IMO.

I don't believe it will happen. Like I said, it's not like hell will have frozen over if it does, though.

So, yeah... go Mitch, if he's the guy.

The footwork and poor reading ability is what translates into poor accuracy. Poor accuracy always has a cause. It isn't just magic. No different than a pitcher with control issues. Which is derived from inconsistent arm angle, release point, etc.

It's simple. The game moves too fast for him to remain fundamentally sound and to see the field properly. This creates rushed throws and poor throws with poor footwork, etc.

It's all rolled together.

He can work on his footwork over the off-season on an empty field or with no rush all he wants. He could even completely perfect it and it still wouldn't matter. Regardless of how hard he works in the off-season, the game still overwhelms him and moves too fast. His "improved" mechanics will ALWAYS breakdown in the face of that.

The White Sox look like a juggernaut after 30 games of baseball following a half decade of pure ass.

F*ck it...Maybe this is just our time as Chicago fans.

This season will not officially be over until you have broken down how Foles' huge dong makes him a better QB in a technical sense.

A big dong will give you a nice, solid center of gravity. At 6'6 you would expect a QB to be a bit clumsy and top heavy. Not Foles, though. That 10 pound dumbell between his legs really balances it out.

Trumpisky in 2020. Foles is ass. I still believe Trubisky will start all 16 but if Nick gets in then I'm expecting a lot of you will be disappointed. Either Trubs steps up or were doomed.

But he still needs 5 All Pro offensive linemen, the Bears to trade for Travis Kelce, bring Payton back from the dead, clone Jerry Rice, and also see if Bill Walsh can still call plays from the afterlife.

Then Mitch will be serviceable.

Who’s starting week 1? Not that it matters. Just curious.

It's still up in the air. One minute the reports say Trubisky has the edge, the next one gives it to Foles. And no report gives any glowing reviews of either QB. If I had to guess, Trubisky will ultimately get the nod, but will be on such a short leash, it will be like Nagy grabbing onto his collar.

Foles has done 100x more in his career than Trubisky could dream of.

He has three seasons that Mitch could never dream of touching. Two of them, only starting 6 and 8 games, including post-season. Just ONE of those three years alone buries Mitch.

Reports from beat writers saying it's been a back/forth affair in the competition. With Foles recently taking a slight lead.

I mean, that's based on the notion that this is a fair and open competition. I could see the staff having a bias towards either QB from the get-go. I could see them giving it to Mitch - simply because 14 90 minute practices is such a short time for Foles to get down the nuances/verbage of the offense and get acclimated with new receivers. I could see them giving it to Foles - simply because they had already seen enough from Mitch over 3 seasons to know they wanted to go in another direction. Stop wasting the defense's window.

I truly don't know. I think most are lying if they tell you they do. I haven't seen any solid insider reports on the staff favoring one over another. Just speculation and theories. First game is the 13th. I would imagine they will name a starter going into that Week 1 practice week.

The biggest issue with Trubisky still appear to be accuracy. Good grief. Not exactly something you can fix overnight. You either have it or you don't.

Noon is right though. If Foles wins it, not good for this franchise and we will most certainly draft a QB.

From what I'm reading, Foles and Mitch have been pretty equal with the edge going to Foles... more steady Eddie than Mitch and does a better job reading defense's. Can he go 16 games without pulling a Burton, who had to be carted off the practice field yesterday...

Sadly tho, if the reports have been accurate, it's really one QB being less mediocre than the other. All of us would have preferred that both were kicking ass and it's a matter of choosing between great and greater. I suspect we'll be monitoring the college QB situation all season in preparation for the '21 draft. Hope not, but I suspect we will.
