Are you really gonna give Laich up to 5 million? Sheesh, he's important to them, but those are big bucks.

I'm guessing Laich ultimately gets $4.0-4.75 million per year. I think the issue is probably term. This is his big pay day and I think he wants 5-6 years. Caps have been hesitant to sign longer term deals unless the player is marquee or the price is low. $5mil+ would be too much for him IMO.

Btw, there is still PLENTY of cap space to sign both Brouwer and Laich. I forgot that the Nylander contract is finally of the books, so the Caps cap goes up by almost 9 million, not just 4. We have 13mil to spend on 3-4 forwards, 1 d man and a goalie. There is also a lot in the system.

BTW, Nylander's contract hasn't been a cap hit for the past 2 seasons. We still payed his salary, but he played in Grand Rapids and was no longer a cap hit. Just saying...

He was not a cap hit 2 years ago because of the transfe agreement with grand rapids. He was, however, a cap hit last year. Go back and look over the numbers.

Ritari's right here. We paid his salary, but it did not count against the cap. Uncle Ted will sure be happy he's gone. That's $4 million of profit back in his pocket.

I can't find any site that still has 10-11 numbers to show it though.

Btw, since we're talking Caps here...

What's the deal with Arnott? Haven't even heard any comments on a possibility of re-signing him. Everyone said what a great move it was, and if we are keeping Semin, he played better with him around. Why no possibility he comes back?

When I went and added the numbers from last year, he individual contracts did not add up to the total shown. His name was not listed but the numbers were off by 4.725million when you added them up. I could be wrong, nut that is what I got last season, from capgeek.

Regardless. We have plenty of cap space to fill out a very good roster. In addition, longer term deals for youngerguys are nice becausethe cap goes up. By the end of there terms, the ovie and backstrom deals will be steals. With the NBA and NFL lockouts looming, I could see a cap of 75mil by 2014-2015.

I don't think he has been discussed by most. He would have to come back at Knuble like numbers.

Yeah, I just can't imagine any team giving him more than $3 million per. If we aren't making a big splash and his salary comes down from last year, I'd think they'd want to get him back. That's all.

To me, the formula seems simple...

-Deal Semin for picks
-Sign B. Richards for whatever he's asking
-Sign Alzner first, Laich next, and fill out with role players that cost $1mil per
-Try to dump Poti to a cap floor team that would appreciate a vet

I'm tired of trades for guys like Brouwer, or Hannan, or Corvo. Can we just ONE time go out and get that top guy that scares the shit out of every team in the conference.

Eh, Arnott made a bigger impact when he first came over, but as time went on he didn't make as big of an impact. In his exit interview he talked about the team in the past tense. Read whatever you want into that

I don't think he was here long enough or played enough to say he got better or worse. He had a serious injury he played through as well.

11 regular season games - 4 g, 3 a, 7 pts, +3
9 playoff games - 1 g, 5 a, 6 pts +4 (tied for 3rd on team in pts., best +/- on team)

His performance in the playoffs was about the same as his regular seasons, as small a window as both were. But lets take those 20 games and multiply it to a season for shits and giggles... 20 goals, 36 assists, 56 points. Not bad.

Anyway, if he's not interested, it doesn't matter. I just think it's weird how everyone was so high on him and I haven't heard any chatter.

Those trades aren't bad (well corvo trade was..) But yes I'd like a bigger deal, just once.

Yeah, I'm not saying they were bad either (well, yeah - Corvo was ;) ). I think Hannan was a great addition this year. Actually hope we keep him although it's a bit of a log game at D right now. I'm just saying make one bold move ONE time. Sounds like you agree.

They are in a pretty good cap position right now. One guy with proven talent and a big contract is not going to blow that up.

You guys will like Brouwer. Trust me. He's the type of guy who can benefit any line he plays on, and complements the top/talent guys well. He also goes into corners and plays gritty. He's a dickface piece of shit, and from a Wings fan to a former Hawk that's a compliment.
