I don't know why people are so caught up on him being a 'backup'. It depends on what health issues the Cavs face this season... but I will be shocked if TT isn't at least in the top 6 for minutes this season. (He was #4 behind Kyrie, Lebron, and Love last season) He will be a very important part of the rotation throughout the season and the playoffs.

Tried to tell you guys.

TT finished 4th in total minutes for the Cavs this season. Started all 21 playoff games.

Jonas Valuncuinas- 4 years 64 million- 16 aavg

Draymond Green - 5 years 82 million- 16.4 aavg

Enes Kanter- 4 years 70 million - 17.5 aavg

Robin Lopez- 4 years 54 million- 13.5 aavg

Harrison Barnes- TURNED down 4 years 64- 16 aavg

REggie Jackson- 5 years 80 million- 16 aavg

Wesley MAthews- 4 years 70 Million-- 17.5 aavg

Brandon Knight- 5 years 70 Million -- 14 aavg

Thompson- 5 years 82 million- - 16.4 aavg

ALL of these deals were signed this offseason. (or not signed)

While I certainly think- and have written on this board MULTIPLE MULTIPLE times- that the Cavs are paying a premium for Thompson because of the circumstances (the fact they cant replace him if he leaves since they are currently over the cap, the fact that he was probably the teams 2nd best player in the playoffs, the fact the cap is going up in a huge way, the fact that LeBron wants him here - etc. etc. etc.)

I am just glad they stuck to their guns and gave him basically the same exact deal they offered him on July 1st since it was VERY VERY fair both now and back then. Great call by David Griffin to stand firm and call Rich Paul's bluff.
wow.....it feels good to be right. :)

Other option was ______?

Mozgov was beyond awful, all season.

The deals we are going to see go down in the coming weeks will completely erase any perception that TT is overpaid.

TT signed a 5-year contract. 1 year above market + 4 years under market = good deal for the Cavs.

Joakim Noah is about to get $18 mill for crying out loud.

Bottom line... I was right.

I knew a year ago - and the Cavs knew a year ago - that TT's role on the team was going to be very significant.

All the "$16 mill for a backup" stuff was stupid then. As time has proven.

exactly....anyone that really followed the team knew this. Hell- if you watched the Finals you knew this last year.

anyone that wanted an easy excuse to rip on the Cavs and didnt really know shit- did so at the time- and now we look smart and they look stupid. Simple as that.

I posted earlier, that it ended up being a good move because they won.

You're like a gnat.
You guys should have your fun.
Cavs won, but no need to continue to just make shit up.

And I agree with that because they had no money to sign anyone else, and had no
bigs.

It's 2 seperate discussions, but since they won, it was worth it last year.
No debate.

Cavs all-time winning percentage: .459
Cavs all-time playoff appearances since 1970: 19
Cavs all-time championships: 0

Suns all-time winning percentage: .552
Suns all-time playoff appearances since 1970 (when Cavs became franchise) : 29
Suns all-time championships: 0

10 less playoff appearances than us in the same span of time. Never talk down to me again bitch, Cavs fans do not have the right to condescend when talking about PLAYOFFS. WE TALKING BOUT PLAYOFFS? PLAYOFFS?

I'm a little surprised the Suns all time winning % is that high.....they had some BAD teams.

Cavs winning made what logically beforehand looked wrong, currently right, but whatever, even blind squirrels find acorns.

Wiggy carrying on and on about bring right on the eve where teams are preparing to offer Whiteside a max seems pretty comical, right ??

the fact that you actually pushed a theory that Riley is purposefully sandbagging the negotiations with Whiteside so he leaves and Miami does not have to pay him is BY FAR the biggest indictment of Whiteside's issues then anything I could ever say.

Tristan Thompson was without a doubt more valuable and helped his team win more than Whiteside did. Its not even a close debate.
