As we have found out way too often around here you never know what you are getting with a pitcher. Too many arm injuries to pay that much of a price for one to me. Hamels is a proven commodity right at the present, but when will his arm give out ala Cliff Lee or even temporarily give out like Yu, Martin, and Derek.

Why do you say Alfaro is trending down?

Trending down right now. Apr 328/369/475 May 229/308/457/ Jun (just 3 games so not really counting it but) 167/167/167

Remember, I am not saying I am for it. I just wanted to look at from both sides. You are right about the possibility of him being injured as our own pitchers cannot stay healthy. Because of that you cannot have enough pitching.

DDJ - Choo - Prince - Big Mitch - Joey G - Elvis - Martin - Chirinos - Alberto is your lineup tonight behind Chi Chi.

I don't know if you ever listen to the FAN but when they were announcing the lineup and they said Joey Gallo they erupted and started chanting "Joey! Joey! Joey!". It cracked me up as I was driving home. The guy has brought some excitement to the fans.

if that is true why keep any of them?
I would be very careful in giving out Cliff Lee money from now on and I would not spend good prospects plus a lot of salary on one. I wouldn't mind spending a lot of money on Yu, but I would not spend a lot on both him and Hamels. It is just a huge gamble to take unless you have more money to spend than we do.

Besides, we don't have a choice but to keep the ones I mentioned.

Well. due to roster limitations and budget limitations you might not be able to have enough pitching, but there are limits to how much you can have especially if one of them costs a whole lot of money.

Elvis loses focus easily. Some plays he makes are brilliant while others in the field, on base and at bat he's out in space. I wonder if he's got ADD?

The post game PowerAde bath or shaving cream pies were cute the first 10 or so. Not any more. He's 26. He needs to grow up.

Unfortunately -- I don't see that in the cards. Not his personality.

I think you're a little too stiff about some things.

With only one lefty, why not bunch em all up?

I noticed in the last 11 games that Mitch has 10 hits in 45 ABs for a .222 avg with 3 2b and 1 HR and 4 RBIs.

you keep going back to the money thing. how do we know how high they would take the payroll for quality?

If Hamels is the one piece that takes TEX to the 2015 post season ... then it might consider something like Alfaro + Mazara. But with that talent coming back PHL would have to send a whole lot of money ... perhaps making TEX annual net cost about $10mil/season.

Other than Yovani Gallardo and Wandy Rodriguez miraculously ... when was the last time TEX got a quality pitcher equal to what TEX sent in exchange for the pitcher from a National League team or a free agent leaving a National League team?

Hamels is old. He's 31. If 2015 isn't the year ... then in 2016 - 17 he's two years older.

I think most of the interest in moving Hamels to TEX is in PHL. That should tell you something. If he's the ONE missing piece ... consider it. If he isn't the missing piece ... well the real missing piece down the road may be a better exchange for Alfaro + Mazara.

i don't agree or disagree with you but both are quality pitchers and i would not mind one bit seeing the 2 of them at the top of our rotation next season. but only if there was some way we did not give up Alfaro and the Phillies eat a big chunk of his salary

Yu pitched 7 years in Japan and the last 5 years there averaged over 205 IP. Then in 3 years with the Rangers he pitched 191.1, 209.2 and 144.1. He is 3 years younger than Hamels.

Their GM is about 3 years too late on realizing he needs to rebuild. So that is what he is doing now. But I completely understand what you are saying here.
