I think LeBron can without a doubt make an argument already for #2 of all time- but at this point i think that reasonable minds can still disagree to that.

What do you think LeBron has to do to pretty much become the consensus 2nd best player of all time? If he wins another title- particularly this year- I think that would cement his legacy as at LEAST the 2nd best player of all time behind Jordan.

Its just insane how good this guy is- and how he has almost always managed to do the right thing. With the insane amount of scrutiny he has endured he has done a pretty good job- of course he has some really bonehead moments like "The Decision"- but he has shown through his actions to be a class-act and a guy that parents can have their kids look up to- unlike so many other NBA stars like Iverson, Kobe, etc. that failed to do that.
I think he needs a 3 in a row.

Why?

Kareem, Magic, and Wilt never 3peated. Kareem and Magic only ever repeated once. Larry, Oscar, Duncan, West never even repeated, let alone 3 in a row.

Unless you're putting Bill Russell or Kobe or Shaq over LeBron as of now... I'm not sure why a 3-peat would make a big difference in terms of his place on the list.

It's not like Lebron is in a dead heat with those guys without taking into account championships though. He needs an advantage to pull ahead of those guys. Personally, I won't ever see him ahead of Jabbar, Magic or Jordan, regardless of championships. Championships are team accomplishments anyway.

LeBron will never be as great as the mighty Bill Russell.

I disagree.. Comparing LeBron, Magic, and Kareem's resumes... I think it is pretty even.. except for the extra championships that Magic & Kareem have.

For me, as of right now... I have LeBron barely in front of Magic, Kareem well ahead of LeBron, and Michael well ahead of Kareem.

For real, dude? LeBron can't play with cramps, Magic played with the HIV. No comparison.

Interesting criteria. To each his own, I guess.

In all seriousness though, if Magic had not gotten HIV he could have possibly made it to the Kobe and Shaq era. Oh, and he actually went to college. This is coming from someone who always finds it a little silly to compare players from different eras.

Yeah, thats a good point. It definitely hurt his longevity stats.

LeBron and Magic have both played exactly 13 seasons now.

Who knows what else Magic would've accomplished given another handful of seasons.

Kareem and Magic have arguments right now- and Kareem becuase of longevity will likely have an argument longer- but LeBron is gonna blow by Magic. Magic only playing 13 seasons hurts him.

If you were to pick one guy for the entirety of their career to build your team around after Jordan- you take LeBron.

The new NBA and the way super teams are built. If Kobe and MJ could do it then why can't he if he wants to be Top 5.

Johnson's career achievements include three NBA MVP Awards, nine NBA Finals appearances, twelve All-Star games, and ten All-NBA First and Second Team nominations. He led the league in regular-season assists four times, and is the NBA's all-time leader in average assists per game, at 11.2.[2] Johnson was a member of the 1992 United States men's Olympic basketball team ("The Dream Team"), which won the Olympic gold medal in 1992. After leaving the NBA in 1992, Johnson formed the Magic Johnson All-Stars, a barnstorming team that travelled around the world playing exhibition games.[3] Johnson was honored as one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History in 1996. 3 NBA Finals MVPs, 3 Regular season MVPS.

LeBron has earned All-NBA honors every season since his sophomore year, All-Defensive honors every season from 2009 to 2014, and was named Rookie of the Year in his debut season.[34] With four MVP awards, he is part of a select group of players who have won the award four times, including Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Jordan, Wilt Chamberlain, and Bill Russell; only he and Russell have won four MVP awards in a five-year span.[220] While James has never won the Defensive Player of the Year Award, he has finished second in the voting twice and lists it as one of his main goals. 12 time all star. 3 time champion. 4 time MVP. 3 time Finals MVP. Ten All NBA 1st teams, 2 all NBA second teams, 5 time NBA All Defensive First TEam- 2 Olympic Golds.

Just proves any moron with internet access can pretend to be knowledgeable.

Dude, it's Magic though. He's one of the cornerstones of turning the NBA into what it is today. You're not going to find anyone outside of Lebron's era that will ever vouch for Lebron as being better than Magic, no matter what accolades he receives from here on out. It's hard to ever compete with the legend of a player, which is very much the case for Magic.

Lebron will never be viewed ahead of Kareem, and I don't believe he should either.

nostalgia is not a reason to say one guy is better then another- and thats all you are talking about.

20 years from now people will be nostalgic about LeBron and all but the old timers will be talking about Magic like its from a bygone era- its just the nature of the game.

being able to detach yourself and objectively look at each players accomplishments - by the time all is said and done- LeBron will be a dead-ringer #2 of all time- at least.

It's not a correct reason, that I agree. But it is a reason nonetheless.
