Can anyone tell me why Shaq Harris is part of the Lions?

The last article about Whitehead and Palmer was what most thought here. It will be one them. What caught my eye was Gunther speaking Travis Lewis being more a MLB. Does this mean keeping him as backup to Tulloch? I am not sure, but do you guys see with Palmer and Whitehead and Levy the middle would be covered by one of them? I have never been high on Lewis. Watched a lot of OU games working in Big12-2=12 country.

Sounds like they like Lewis backing up all 3 spots, which makes him a valuable back-up. His story has been good instincts, but underwhelming athleticism. I'd say he's a keeper as a career back-up and special teamer with the ability to grow into a starting role once he gets enough experience under his belt. He's the kind of guy coaches are comfortable with coming off the bench, he won't fuck things up and be a weak spot- but neither is he likely to be much of a playmaker at the position...

To be honest we really need 2 OLBs. I would rather have Levy be the backup MLB or the career backup.

I will not argue that. Levy is what we have right now. No team has 3 probowl backers. Lions addressed more pressing needs in the draft IMO. For that trend to continue I see LB and C being most glaring needs for next year. I feel the Lions are actually starting to get depth. Have not seen that in years. Millen drafts are to recover from!!!

I don't think anyone would be at all upset if we were able to upgrade over Levy, but he's not quite the liability that he's sometimes made out to be around here. Imo he's a "C+/B-" OLB; he can cover well enough to be a 3 down backer and he's assignment sound, he just misses too many tackles and doesn't produce many splash plays. If he could clean up on the missed tackles I think he could be a solid "B" LB.

At the moment, though, he's possibly the worst guy on our defense. Ziggy is a question mark because of inexperience, ditto for Slay and Bentley, but they're all trending upwards. I suppose the other OLB spot is the worst guy on the D at the moment, but even there youngster Tahir Whitehead has the tools to be a monster. If Whitehead can develop into a good two-down rush backer and we can swap Levy out for a rangy playmaker then we'd be in great shape. Conversely, if neither Palmer or Whitehead steps up and Levy is the better of the pair, then I'd be fine with adding the rangy playmaker on the other side and keeping Levy as a cheap, steady veteran.

Long story short, if Levy is the worst guy on our D we're doing just fine. If we can replace him with an upgrade, super! But if we need to use our draft picks and cap space elsewhere, Levy isn't a horrible option at OLB.

That's my $.02 anyhow...

Agreed.

I am not even worried about Slay though. I think he could be a potential superstar.

Could the ultimate nightmare scenario be brewing in Green Bay? Mason Crosby continues to be absolutely horrible. His confidence is completely shot. I cant think of a worse scenario than the Lions cutting Kickalicous and he end up with the Packers blasting 60 yard FG's against us. :gaah:

I hate to wish injury upon any player but perhaps a little ankle sprain for Akers would be ok. :hope:

They got a bigger nightmare brewing on the tundra. Bulaga is out with ACL tear.

I was kind of surprised that we cut Alex Elkins... I was hoping he might make the practice squad...

Lions depth chart released for game vs. Jets - Pride Of Detroit

Larry Warford is listed as 3rd string RG?? This will probably start some chatter here. Debbie Downers or KoolAid drinkers will have to battle this out.
I need to see a few weeks of pre season first before I start trying to decipher this one. Too many variables this early in camp involved.

Another I thing I noticed is Spurlock at both return spots and Edwards second, if this plays out the rest of the way. Does this mean Owens is 4th back and they don't keep Miller or Reddick? Unless one of them unseat Owens. Do they only keep 4 RB's and 6 WR's.

Apart from injuries, I truly only Bush, Leshoure, Bell gettings carries during the season anyway. 4th or 5th RB will be ST players anyway...

I think we may see 4 RBs and 7 WRs this year if Spurlock wins the return job. We have 6 or 7 WRs firmly ahead of Spurlock on the depth chart, so if he wins the return job that's the difference between keeping 5 RBs or 4 RBs, imo.

I think we keep no less than 6 WRs with the group we have right now. CJ, Broyles and Burleson are all locks. Schillens sure sounds like a lock, or at least damn close. Pat Edwards has been lighting it up in camp and seems pretty likely at this point. That's 5 and we still have Kris Durham and rookie Corey Fuller bringing up the rear. Megatron and Nate are the only established guys we have at the position, but we have a logjam of young talent behind them, so hopefully some of that talent will turn into production for us this year...

Well if he is listed as 3rd string because the other guys have better technique, stronger , faster, protect better run block better then

A) He might have been the wrong pick.

B) It's a smoke screen. I don't buy the smoke screen option on depth charts.

Gandy couldn't beat out Peterman last year now he's a Number 1? Ut Oh.
