IMO Theo Riddick being anything but a practice squad player seems to be getting slimmer by the day.

That last WR spot battle will be very interesting between Edwards, Durham, and Fuller. I agree Schillens seems like a good to make the team.

I can also see the Lions losing a good young DB on waivers. Possibly Greewood as much as I would hate to see him get claimed before making the practice squad I just can't see the Lions keeping extra CBs. I see the splurging at the safety spot as insurance on Delmas if they create an extra spot.

Well if he is listed as 3rd string because the other guys have better technique, stronger , faster, protect better run block better

IMO Schwartz is reluctant to start rookies on the O-line. Or hell even give the significant minutes.

Well if he is listed as 3rd string because the other guys have better technique, stronger , faster, protect better run block better then

A) He might have been the wrong pick.

B) It's a smoke screen. I don't buy the smoke screen option on depth charts.

Gandy couldn't beat out Peterman last year now he's a Number 1? Ut Oh.

Thought this also... Always thought,do a lot of coaches have those vets they just can not sit? We debated over Reiff not starting last year. Kinda like Leyland and Rugburn and Inge??? I just don't pay attention to other teams as much( homerism)

With this in mind. I figured Scott would be in front of Gandy!

I agree with muzz, if our 3rd round pick does not start the first preseason game then it was the wrong pick.

I think your deep-seeded paranoia is getting the better of you here. Depth charts this time of the year don't mean shit. They show where the roster battles are right now, after a week of practice. I don't think it's any coincidence that Gandy is #1 at RG and is also our longest tenured player at the position. 1st team reps have been going all over at RG, I wouldn't worry about Warford being a bust just yet.

I know it's in your nature to doubt, panic, and throw whatever player has and doubt to their game under the bus you're driving, but let's just relax and let the preseason play out before going into fire-sale mode on the o-line, hey?

Keeping 6 CBs I can't see Greenwood not making the cut. DeQuan Menzie and Domonique Johnson have both been getting some press for their strong camps so far, but I'd think both guys have a better shot at the #4 safety spot vs. the #6 CB spot. We moved Don Carey from CB to safety and that's worked out very well for us so far. Both Menzie and Johnson fit the bill for players who could make that switch- both have the size, both like to hit.

I see our 6 CBs being: Houston, Slay, Bentley, Bartell, Green and Greenwood in that order.

At safety I think Quin, Delmas and Carey are locks with Spievey, T. Johnson and Hope competing for that 4th spot. Perhaps the special teams "safety" spot that Wendling has held the last couple of years will go to a hybrid CB/Safety like D. Johnson or Menzie to protect against injuries at both spots?

You actually think Stafford was #1 on the depth chart after a week of practice over Shaun Hill? Your logic is flawed.
Warford isn't even #2.

Sure things can change, but game 1 of the regular season will be very telling Mr. Kool-Aid......Is Warford really going to jump from #3 at RG over Gandy at #1 in 30 days? Sorry ain't buying it. No one gets that much better in 30 days.

Either admit someone can get that much better in 30 days or simply say Schwartz is bullshitting with the Depth chart.

Game one will be telling.

Dear god, If Stafford got shot in the knee and throwing elbow, TP would spin that shit into a feel good story about how good he's going to be when he comes back or some silly shit.

Mark this shit down too, atleast we know where it started this time.

I say something negative about Warford and he attacks me with the paranoia BS etc etc and runs to the rescue and aid of the Lions.

Must be a defense mechanism in him or something.:laugh3:

I guess I don't follow... Hill wasn't on our roster in Stafford's rookie camp. He was competing with Daunte Culpepper for the starting spot. That being said I still don't follow...

Warford isn't even #2.
Like I said, the 1st depth chart of the preseason really, truly, doesn't mean squat. It's a way to let the fans know which order the players will be taking reps in, nothing more. Look at team's depth charts that they kick out right now and then rectify those same depth charts with the week one versions and you'll find a ton of turnover across the league. Players are listed all over these bs depth charts this time of year for lots of different reasons.

Warford not being the starter by week one of the preseason is no reason to panic at all.

Sure things can change, but game 1 of the regular season will be very telling Mr. Kool-Aid...
Agreed, week one of the actual, real season is far more telling than the 1st week of the preseason.

...Is Warford really going to jump from #3 at RG over Gandy at #1 in 30 days? Sorry ain't buying it. No one gets that much better in 30 days.
You're clearly putting too much stock into a hokum list, that's all I can say about that. If you're the type that thinks this "depth chart" means anything towards who will be the week one starters for us then I have a lovely used snow blower and some ice fishing equipment I'd like to sell to you for those brutal Tennessee winters...

To answer your question up there, though, Warford could jump from #3 to #1 at RG by the end of the week, let alone in a month. There's nothing binding about these early lists whatsoever.

Either admit someone can get that much better in 30 days or simply say Schwartz is bullshitting with the Depth chart.
It's no so much that he's bullshitting with the depth chart as it is that these depth charts are bullshit. Yes, returning starters like Stafford, CJ, Tully, etc... are no brainers to put atop their respective spots. As are big imports like Reggie Bush and Glover Quin. However, at spots where there's an open competition like RG, RT and LOLB ranking the guys on a depth chart after a week is just an exercise in futility. If you truly think that spot has been decided in a week of training camp then this debate is really pretty pointless from my end...

Game one will be telling.
Game one of the REGULAR season certainly will be. But we're talking about game one of the preseason here...

if he was third on the depth during the start of the REGULAR season I would be worried. My bet is you will see a different guard start every week this preseason as they try them out. The one who starts the 3rd game is most likely the favorite.

I'd be willing to bet that the guys listed at the top of the depth chart at RG, RT and LOLB- the three spots where we'll be having an open competition- will change for next week's game, and again for the following week's game. Schwartz has repeatedly stated that all these guys will get equal reps, so there's no reason to think they each won't get their crack at running with the ones in the preseason. Looks like it's Gandy's turn 1st, try not to panic so much over that...
