By the way i did love dion lewis at pitt,i keep forgetting about him
Lost in all this talk about looking for replacements - Dion has the highest YPC of any of our RB's! I'm glad to hear not everybody has bought into the "sky is falling" mentality of Vereen moving on.
We were well prepared for Vereen and Ridley to move on. I am excited about seeing White graduate and seeing what Gaffney and Lewis have to offer.
We need to remember how angry the league was with us taking Gaffney and IR'ing him.
We basically "violated an unwritten rule" when we stole him.
If we listen very carefully, we can hear BB saying under his breath to the rest of the league (fuck you bitches!)

I think james white may even be an upgrade over vereen
I hope you're right? I just haven't seen enough from him. Hope BB and company think he's the answer? That way they don't need to use a pick on RB. If that's the case I'm happy. Vereen was Brady's binky.

No doubt the Pats stockpiled some backs. I don't know enough about any of them. I was a bigger fan of Vereen then most. He was dependable blocking and receiving a great team guy. So I go with the posters here and back away from the cliff. Go Pats

I have to disagree with you here,i think the pats let him go because his blocking was poor at best, anybody can catch an 8 yd pass wide open in the flat, but can you light up that blitzing LB & vereen sucked at it & james white is better between the tackles

Reasons like this is why I think, this is a huge draft for the Pats. If anyone of the current backs can pick up the load that eases so much tension on the draft. Pats lost some key individuals and picked up a couple potentially? Time will tell. I love the Chandelor (sp) signing. Saves us from having to defend him and can compliment this offense greatly. A few good picks and I feel good about next season.

This draft has me all sorts of confused, LOL. I agree with you all on the RB we have, I still think Gaffney is a 3 down RB and White was drafted to do what Vereen did. Going to be interesting for sure to see what happens. One thing BB is doing is building competition at that spot. I think Cadet is going to be more of a WR than RB. He has some good size to play the slot if need be.

4 days out before we see what NE does. Would not shock me to see them take a WR either...

Don't forget Lewis. He was rated 5th in the draft when he came out. Got injured and hasn't gotten on the field.
He will get a chance with NE and if he is anything like he was coming out of college, he'll run circles around these other backs. If he doesn't have it anymore? He can still catch and was rated higher in receiving than Vereen.....

5. Dion Lewis, Pittsburgh -" A cat quick scat-back who possesses an innate ability to make people miss. An instinctive runner who uses his low center of gravity and tremendous agility to make cuts at full speed."

Dion Lewis -" Lewis showed tremendous balance, lateral agility and acceleration throughout the drills. Can cut on a dime at full-speed. Stood out in a crowded field of undersized backs."

If we look close at what the Patriots REALLY need I think we can all agree it's a more solid, cohesive offensive line. Belichick doesn't seem to be concerned. He hasn't even offered Dan Connelly a contract and he's still a FA. Odd thing is that nobody else has offered him one. The nest REAL need is an experienced cornerback. No question that BB will give Malcolm Butler every opportunity to take a starter spot and Logan Ryan will get a shot also. There are 9 CBs on the roster but it's an unknown.......to us fans. The final need is the defensive line and that might be questionable because there are five or six guys who have a ton of Patriot experience.

After that, it's back ups and possible future starters. BB has 9 picks. I'm expecting him to trade out of the first round and get an additional second and third. That will give him 5 picks in those two rounds and he can play with other 5 in rounds 4 through 7.

I think it's due to all the concussions. I do agree we need to upgrade the oline. Top priority.

I think BB knows that he can get a starter, like Stork, in Rd's 3/4. This draft is kind of deep with starting OL. He could seriously get 2 starting OG/OL in the 3rd round. Guys like Cann, Jackson are all slipping out of the 1st rd now.

SO for now, my top 3 guys I think BB will go after if we keep are 1st rd pick: Shaq Thompson, Gurley, Goldmen. For some reason Thompson has come on as late for me. His flexibility scream BB and the Patriots. Kind of reminds me of Collins. Can cover, tackle, and can even play a little S if need be.

I don't think you can count on Gurley being there at 32. If he lasts until 27 the Cowboys will grab him. That seems to be the consensus around town. And it makes sense since they let Murray walk.

Gurley is falling because of the damage to his knee. He hasn't been able to even work out lightly.

OG Laken Tomlinson is now the local media favorite to go to the Patriots in Round 1.

I just read up on Tomlinson. You think he will last to the end of the round? A guard with his skill set usually doesn't end up at 32. I hope he does though.

I copied this from WALTER'S NFL Rumors:

patriotsb_logo.gif
New England Patriots:
4/26: Nelson Agholor will be "enticing" to the Patriots if he falls to No. 32. - Mike Reiss, ESPN

4/24: One scenario I'm hearing for the New England Patriots is a trade out of the 32nd pick, moving down a few slots to select offensive guard AJ Cann." - Tony Pauline

4/23: "Raiders, Chiefs and Patriots showing a lot of interest in Vince Kowalski, OL, Villanova. Possible last-round gamble." - Tony Pauline

4/10: The Patriots are expected to select a wide receiver early in the 2015 NFL draft because "their presence at Pro Days that featured receiver prospects was clearly noticed by their counterparts around the league." - Doug Kyed, NESN, via Jason La Canfora

Good stuff. I don't agree with La Canfora about the WR early stuff. We have more pressing needs.

You all may disagree with me on this........Forget drafting a deep threat. One reason I thought the Seahawks were going to beat us was simply due to how fast their defense is. But quick beats speed. Which is how Vereen, DA and Edelman got open. I say, draft more very quick WR's. If you can get quick with speed....short catches go for long gains.

I hadn't heard that. ESPN & NFLN all have Gurley going in the teens. Also, that Gurley is ahead of schedule in his recovery.

It's amazing how many conflicting stories come out during the draft. The draft is Must See TV. Pure drama and entertainment.

For those on the east coast staying up late to see who the Pats draft, only to see them trade out of the first...that has to suck!

I'll be at work watching the draft in the day (time zone)
I like Tomlinson. Do not want Gurley, Agholor, or Collins. If we are taking a receiver, I want Strong. I'd rather have Rowe as CB. Cann would be good if we trade down or if he falls to 64.
Strong should be gone at 32 but all my other picks are going to fall to the 2nd. It will not surprise me if we trade back a little. If you want to fall in love with Strong, watch the Collins "highlights"

Looks like Gurley will not make it past Miami, LOL...I find that funny, not sure why. Starting to hear, like others, that pick 32 is gaining value. Not only because its another 1st rd pick, but teams have that 5th yr option with it. So maybe and early 2nd rd team (Raiders) will be willing to jump back into the 1st. I would be totally fine with that.

Few names that are dropping: Ray, Gregory, Collins. There are def going to be some names on the board. Certainly going to be interesting.

Latest options for me: Trade, Shaq, Goldmen.

Funny you say this. I think Conley from GA had the speed and size to fit in NE. BB worked him out alone. Kid was a beast at the combine. We can def get him the 3rd with are xtra pick if we wanted. He was a captain at GA, and has the size to be a nice RZ option.
