Coots and Read for Boyle no way!!!!!

No, it'd be Coots and maybe a lower pick OR Read and a first. I wouldn't do either. Boyle would help us BUT he is 36, makes 6.6 million, we'd lose young talent, he's signed for only one more year, and he doesn't fix our problem in the long run.

we have to stop bringing in these older players as quick fixes. they do nothing to bring long term stability to the team. when you have a young nucleus like we do we need to really work on bringing in young defensemen who can be part of the long term plans of the team. i know its easier said than done but we really need to do what it takes to bring in a young #1 D. as nice as it is to have players like read, schenn and coots, we need to be willing to part with one of them to get the Dman we need. coots is last on my list of trade candidates. i would not be opposed to seeing if schenn and read can bring us a big time Dman. this franchise has shown time and time again that bringing in good forwards is not an issue. time to trade some of our assets to address a weakness. can't hold on to every young forward unfortunately

I totally agree with everything here except for Coots. I would keep Schenn and Read over him if they all equally would bring back the same young defenseman.

Saw that Burns was rumored to be on the Flyers radar. Would depend on the price which I am sure is steep.

All of these retread/quick fix options .... this is what happens when you play high risk/high reward with your prospects in trades ....Sbisa and multiple first round picks for Pronger....I liked Pronger as a player but loosing Sbisa and those picks really hurts.

i am making this up, but do you think Mike Green would be available from Caps? Paired with one of our bigger guys like Grossman would be a pretty good tandem.

i'd be really intrigued by that option.. i dont think he would cost a lot because he's been on the wrong side of mediocre the past couple seasons and he's got a monster contract i think

wouldn't take as much to get, but if he doesn't pan out his contract would be a bad one

6 mil for 2 more years after this one.. just checked

also, he's been more glass-like then mesz the past 3 seasons.. he's only played 100 regular season games since the 09-10 seasons

yeah i mean their defense blows like ours. just was thinking that pair him with a big guy like nik and maybe he won't get hit as much. that seems to be the problem, he takes a lot of hits.

ya he does, he's had some serious issues with concussions too

the way the flyers look right now, and in the future, i woudln't mind giving up like a 3rd/4th rd pick for him if that would get him.. i probably would wait til the summer to express interest though.. there's a decent chance he gets bought out IMO

i'd be interested in burns as well.. he's been horrible in SJ, but i hate everything about how san jose plays, so i'm not gunna knock him for that :thumb:

i really do wanna see read on defense though.. i think that would be an interesting experiment.

i mean.. i trust homer, and i like what he's done so far to be honest.. i absolutely would not want him fired because of this year.

but if he trades with san jose today, i will unfriend him on facebook. without hesitation.
