They say it was a hip flexor. Shouldn't be out too long. I'm just glad it wasn't his knee.
hearing groin injury, not hip

the more cap hit they keep though, the more expensive he'll be to acquire
i dont think there is a balance of cap hit, improvement, and lost pieces that makes acquiring jbo worth it

@capgeek: League confirms "over-35" contracts will not be additionally penalized under cap benefit recapture rule in the event of early retirement.
That means it will still have the same penalties as the old CBA and not the new one, right? If Pronger retires he still counts against the cap for the Flyers.

i would think yes.. which makes sense.. you're already getting punished enough by having to keep his whole cap hit
in pronger's case, i dont think it would matter much anyway because they could have his retirement be retroactive to when he was hurt and at that point i dont think the flyers had saved very much cap space vs actual salary
this is such a load of crap. yes the flyers shouldnt have given him a contract like that but at the same time, up until that time the guy played a majority of the games every year. there should be a committee that evaluates these kind of matters and determines the penalties teams get per early retirement.
I cant beleieve we are stuck with the cap hit for that long
its asinine, it really is. that is what insurance is for. the team may have to pay pronger but to penalize us for that long because he took a stick in the eye is fucking retarded.

I believe the rule was put in as a precaution against getting paid fat up front and then retiring when the money went down in the later years of the contract not for real injury purposes.
