If Homer is dumb enough to let Read go for the sake of McGinn then I just might have to stop watching the Flyers for a while.

per his salary Read is the least expendable of all of our young forwards.

Wow that is rash thinking we need all the hard core fans to stay in tact.

I didn't mean trading Read for the sake of keeping McGinn. I meant that with all the other FA's coming up we may not be able to afford to sign Read long term with what the market price for him will be.

Also you can't look at things at short term now with players like Read who will be a ufa not rfa after next year and will prob be earning $4-5m a yr. Where does that salary fit in with G, B Schenn & Cooter all being nessecities. Read could have phenominal trade value this year and if Homer doesn't at least contemplate moving him if there is interest he needs to be removed from his job.

One more thing if you're not able to understand the ridiculously tough task that Flyers management has in the next few years to get to and stay under the cap while keeping this team competitive you really have no idea how bad of a situation the Flyers are in now due to the new CBA.

i really dont think the flyers will make much of a move this year.. i actually don't think many teams will.. too many will be on the bubble and not willing to sell i think, so the few that are actually selling will get ridiculous return

while you bring up a good point bandits, i dont think this year is the year to 'sell' read.. if you decide you cant afford him, next years TDL is the time to do it i think.. if you're not in a 'go for it' type of position

That's a good looking team, but I think McGinn has earned at least a 3rd line spot and therefore either Gagne or Read(possibly both depending on where we are come trade deadline) will be gone. On a side note if we are out I really hope DB waives his NMC and we can send him to a western contender for a kings ransom considering what BUF got for Gaustad last year.

I like what McGinn has shown, and think he could be one of our 3rd liners for the long run. Not to mention that when making this roster I forgot to have Laughton down low, but Talbot could just switch to Z's spot, and Laughton would grab the 4C.

If you're Homer you make room for Read...even if it means getting rid of Briere (either by trade or buyout).

I don't know what Read will be re-signed at but I'm sure it will be less than Hartnell (4.75), Voracek (4.25), and Simmonds (3.975).

We are always competitive i'm hoping Homer has already taken this into consideration and will keep us as good as anyone in the leaue for years to come just as he has done in the past.

we will be getting rid of Bryz and Briere so that money will go to signing some of our talent, then we need tyo find a great goalie cheap that will be our problem.

Yeah, Read is a keeper. We can't afford to lose him.

That sounds like a very familiar problem.

Flyers' Goaltending Prospect Tony Stolarz is looking mighty good in Junior. :)

That is encouraging but I think he's still like 3-4 years away from NHL.

they're not necessarily in a bad situation.. they're in the situation that every team ends up in when they have a lot of talented youngsters.. those contracts expire and all those kids get raises

right now they have 62 mil comitted to the cap next year (64.3 mil cap)

hartnell.giroux.voracek
simmonds.schenn.briere
talbot.couturier.read
mcginn.

timonen.schenn
coburn.grossmann
mesz.gervais
bourdon
pronger

bryz

are all included in that. so you need 2-4th liners and a backup goalie for 2 mil, if you don't do anything else, and don't use pronger's LTIR.. not a stretch to say laughton can/will make the team next year (1.1 mil), sign a backup goalie for 900k.. dip in to pronger's LTIR (though not advisable, can be done) for your last forward (cousins - 900k?)..

personally, i dont think theres any way around buying out briere.. then you have plenty of room, and can upgrade gervais by either resigning gus (cant cost much more than 2-ish) or going after someone else.. if you go that route, you still have 3 mil under the cap + pronger's LTIR

next summer is where chaos hits.. giroux, schenn, and couturier are all RFA and read is UFA.. you do lose timonen's 6 mil though.. plus its not unrealistic to assume 3 mil in a cap increase.. still no way to keep giroux, schenn, couturier, and read though without trading away some salary.. you're looking at ~12 mil between the leftover from briere's buyout, timonen's 6, and a cap increase, to sign 4 budding stars.. not gunna happen

still, having cousins, laughton, and hopefully gostisbehere, and hopefully a 1st round pick from this year on ELC's will help them fill out the roster in 2 years

This team is set up to be a contender for many years.
