Sooo...let's speculate. Let's say Briere would waive his NMC, what else would it take from Philly to get Shattenkirk?

1. i dont think they trade shattenkirk unless schenn or couturier are involved

2. IF they cave on that, and briere is part of the package, my guess is they'd want briere, laughton, and a 1st. alternatively, they might want an NHL dman back, briere, coburn/mesz, and a 1st. it'll be atleast briere, a 1st, and something else valuable though..

I could see this happening.

I don't understand why would anyone call this a classless move on Danny's part? He has three young boys that are settled into a comfortable situation. It's not an easy transition having young kids and suddenly taking them to another place, especially at there age. I don't blame Briere. The current situation sucks for us, but to call Briere's actions classless is just wrong. If he was in a different situation, I'm pretty sure he would do what's best for the organization. Shit happens and family comes first boys.

It would be classless if we used the amnesty on him if he turns down any trade.

I agree with this and I'd hope that the Flyers wouldn't do this. What a horrible way to break up a relationship. ST. Louis I hear is a wonderful sports town. Pronger moved back there with his family. At least it's not like shipping him down to south Florida.

danny briere makes 6+ million dollars per year...and his kids benefit from that. sorry that i'm not gonna shed a tear for the guy who hasnt had to move in 8 years as a PROFESSIONAL ATHLETE.

it is business, so there is nothing wrong with it. in fact i expect the flyers to consider is even if they don't have a trade.

Irregardless of any other potential trades I think getting Gags back even if its in a checking role is a great move. Play him with Couturier and let the kid learn all of the tricks. Once Read comes back that line would be sick both offensively and defensively. They definitely need to keep the goals against down so nice move.

Hmm. I wasn't aware that Leteng is on his final year of contract? Can the Pens afford his pay raise? Or would they even want to if he is asking in the $6 million figure? As much as I can't stand him, he is pretty damn good puck mover. Just a thought in the offseason.

With Staal and Michalek gone, Letang is probably my favorite Penguin. (Player-wise, anyway.)

I have mentioned Subban offer sheets, OEL offer sheets, Weber offer sheets (Before it happened), trading for Iginla, trading for Keith Yandle, and trading for Jack Johnson in the past...

...but there is a -400% chance we even get a sniff of ever acquiring Letang from the Penguins.

Ever.

It's true he's paid a shit ton, but he'd be getting paid even more if he didn't have the NMC. He traded away cash for stability and while I certainly wish he'd earn all 6 and a half of his 7 figures during the regular season, it's his RIGHT to exercise (or waive) his no-movement clause. If we don't like it we probably shouldn't have offered it to him in the first place.

That said we wouldn't be morally wrong to amnesty him. Would vastly prefer to trade him to a team that he doesn't mind going to, though.

I don't think Briere gave up on extra money. He got a lot because of the market that year. There was competition for him and that's what it took to lock him up. Look at Gomez's contract. I don't think Briere would've gotten any more than what we gave him.

Flyers goalie Ilya Bryzgalov livens up pregame skate

Trade speculation

"On the heels of interesting trade chatter involving Danny Briere, the press box at Wells Fargo Center was full of scouts and executives again Wednesday.

Oilers president Kevin Lowe was joined by senior vice president Craig MacTavish and Eastern scout Morey Gare. A trip from Edmonton isn't exactly around the corner, but the Oilers are peddling former first-round picks Ryan Whitney and Ales Hemsky.

Whitney, 30, is the mobile, offensive defenseman the Flyers crave, but he has been a healthy scratch recently. Hemsky, a 29-year-old winger, has thrice broken 65 points scoring in his NHL career, all with the Oilers.

Jeff Petry, 25, is also an intriguing name out of Edmonton. He's younger, and more expensive than Whitney, but has a decent mix of size and footspeed. Plus, he'd be a solid No. 4 on a defense corps full of third pairing-type players.

The NHL trade deadline is April 3.
