Nope, they should DFA Blanco who has been horrid this season in field and at the plate.

They are not going to DFA a valuable 4th OF who had a bad half.

Overreact much?

Jesus Christ, the Angels gave up a lot to get Huston Street. Traded 2 of their top 5 prospect for him, among others.

So the 2 big trades to go down so far have netted huge hauls for both sides. It's an expensive market out there folks.

Yep....with the free agent market getting increasingly bare (just look at the underwhelming FAs available after this year) guys you can trade for are getting more pricey.

Please, PLEASE don't try to equate the two. I didn't "overreact" on July 4, I pointed out history: no team has EVER made the playoffs that lost 18 of 24 games. Thus, I concluded we weren't likely a playoff team and should be looking toward the future.

The Blanco conclusion is based on a half season, when we have many examples every year of players having bad halves and then reverting back to their career means.

Apples and oranges my man.

He better be worth it. That one game playoff is gonna be IMPORTANT. Jeez I hate that format.

OTOH, we won't be facing Street in the 37 games left with the Padres, all of which will be 2-1 games...

To be fair Re: What Angels gave up for Street.

They did give up their No.1 prospect, but they had a weak farm system (bottom-five in baseball). Lindsey was in a hitter-friendly league and couldn't even hit above .250.

Rondon is a tough loss though.

No matter how "bad" your system is, if you give up 3 top-10 prospects, that is a nice haul for the other team. The Padres got some nice depth to their system with this deal and they saved money which is something they need to always keep an eye on. I am not a huge Street fan, though, so my thinking the Pads got a nice haul certainly comes with some bias...

Oh no doubt they got a good haul, just adding context that Angels No.1 spec isn't on the level of many other systems across the league, in comparison.

Both teams won IMO

Final count :
The Los Angeles Angels acquired All-Star closer Huston Street and prospect Trevor Gott from the San Diego Padres for minor leaguers Taylor Lindsey, R.J. Alvarez, Jose Rondon and Elliot Morris in a trade on Friday night.

Angels bringing on Huston Street

Lindsey was ranked the Angel's #1 prospect by Baseball America this year (and #93 in all baseball). Alvarez, Rondon and Morris don't appear on their top 100 list. (The Giants have Crick at #33, and Escobar at #56.)

So with Cain's injury, think the search for a starter intensifies? Biggie has some pretty good numbers this year, but you can't really trust anything after that. Prospect Edwin Escobar has been extremely disappointing in AAA, and he was probably the next line of defense.

Volgy is still very shaky for me, but for a 5th starter, he's been passable. Problem is, he's the 4th starter now.

Who's out there?

David Price! Just kidding...

If all you need is a 4th starter I would think there are a few out there.

I would love David Price, especially since the Dodgers wouldn't be able to get him.

Realistically though, if the Giants add a starter, I doubt it would be a top-line guy. That's just not their way. They'd be quicker to add a top-line bat.

Padres continue their sale, traded Chase Headley to the Yankees today. Decent haul for a rental, Solarte is a versatile guy, but kinda reminds of of what Joaquin Arias was (not the HanRam version, but better than this years version). De Paula is a fringe top-10 guy. Good stuff, but has no clue where it's going.

Compared to what the Padres could have gotten a couple years ago for him, this has got to be pretty disappointing, unless they can fix De Paula.
