This is a great one vs 17 matchup... Not sure how Lou Boudreu was ONLY a 17, while being one of the better defensive SS of all time AND having a career .380 OBP... was there really 16 better SS??

But I digress... Wagner is better of course, but it is actually semi-close...

He had a relatively short career (15 seasons, 1646 games, only 7024 plate appearances) and retired at the age of 34. But in the time he was on the field, he was excellent (42.2 WAA).

WAR is a counting stat. Just because there's 16 shortstops ahead of him doesn't mean he's "the 17th best SS of all-time." Boudreau averaged 6.4 bWAR per 650 PA, which is excellent. For reference, Jeter averaged 4.2 per 650 and Nomar averaged 5.2. Even if you ignore dWAR, you're still talking about a shortstop with .295/.380/.415 (120 OPS+) and is still a ~5 win player.

I know that, was just giving props to the guy saying he was better than the 17th best... In fact he is the 6 highest WAR7...
