this one is very tricky... on one hand Joe Torre played multi positions, but he only had 2000 less innings at catcher than smokemeister... That is not very significant- it is only like 2 seasons...

Then you look at torre's defensive numbers as a catcher and they were actually better at his peak than smokey... But smokey was more consistent defensively throughout his career...

then you look offensively, Torre had 3000 more Plate appearances, and since Torre played 1B too, he missed significantly less games per season... Smokey had 500 or more Plate appearances only once compared to torre did that 11 times... so Torre had more counting stats(HRs, RBIs, and runs), but the ratio stats are very close...

I guess I am going torre... But I think this one is super close...
