You cannot fairly compare private schools and public schools using the US News criteria. Any formula that takes into account the opinion of high school counselors will automatically favor schools that attract students from around the nation (as opposed to being primarily from one or two states). Also, dropout rates are an important factor in these rankings (and since public schools attract poorer students and have less ability to fluctuate fees, dropouts will be higher there).

I turned down a top 15 school to go to Wisconsin, and I assure you that I did not downgrade. Many of my professors left tenured positions at top 25 private schools to go here, so the idea that the quality of education is worse than most of the bottom half of the top 25 is laughable.

What really makes the US News rankings unreasonable is they rely somewhat on the endowment size of a university, like money makes things that much better. Hasn't helped our government...

I find these plorsts interesting, but frankly could give a rats ass on where a school ranks in anything but the football polls. I like watching my favorite team play a football game, not recite Homer's "The Illiad" from memory.

Come on people.

This is college football! Do you want a stud that can at least read and write or do you want a bench warmer that is phi betta kappa?

I didn't go to OU, I went to a much smaller university. I have a great life and a great job which is all I can ask for. Academic rankings are rubbish.

BTW congratulations to all the Havard football fans on this board. I bet they are proud.

Endowments are huge.

American schools kick the collective ass of every other country because we pump so much money into them.
