As potentially strong as the roster looks, there is still one question that hangs over the Bengals' season. What about Dalton? He didn't look any better to me last Thursday, though I know he didn't have Green and Whit, but I still question his accuracy and decision making skills.

He was 3 for 7 and had at least one dropped pass that I remember, and it would have been a conversion of like 3rd and 16. He had a couple other pass completions called back due to penalties on the line.

Dalton needs to improve over the season, and hopefully he does because Josh Johnson will never see the field unless Dalton gets hurt. I still hope Skelton beats Johnson out for the backup QB position.

Johnson > Skelton All Day....... better arm better mobility and gives the offense another way to score....

This is a good point. He didn't have AJ or Baby Hawk and our other receivers suck.

He can get it downfield, just not accurately. Remember he overthrew Green in the playoff game.

Getting the ball downfield has only a little bit to do with arm strength.

More important is timing and release. Most NFL QB's can get the ball 60-70 yards down field...more than enough to hit the long ball. What they lack is the ability to time it correctly and get their release down so that the WR can run to the ball, come under it, and catch it in stride.

Sort of like that 60 yard BOMB Johnson threw to Hamilton on NEWMAN yesterday in stride.....I bet Johnson completes more of these than Andy does in practice.....

I want to see Johnson do it in game conditions, with #1's and against #1's before I believe anything. His track record is very poor coming in. I don't know why he has suddenly improved so much, apparently.

Skelton hit Sanzenbacher in stride down the seam again in practice the other day for another TD, just like he did in the game. He has a rifle for an arm. He has no mobility, but I like the pocket QB's much better than these scrmbling QB's. Game just seems boring as hell to me watching a QB run with the ball. I would much rather have a gunslinger in the pocket.

Skelton was also a starter for several games in the NFL, has generated come from behind wins, and has actually won a NFL game as a starter on a pretty weak Arizona offense. Unlike Johnson who has twice as many INT's as TD's, and is 0-5 in this league. Yeah, Johnson can run, but the question is, can he be a leader and get the ball to his playmakers instead of feeling pressure and taking off running?

I still prefer Skelton. Not saying that means anything, just that I prefer him.

you can't have too much talent.

All the good teams have players who can step up when the starters are injured.

An interesting twist could be that their PS guy, Robinson (I think he can be on the PS again, not sure, though) hasn't played a snap due to injury. If he ends up not being able to play at all, do they go the route of keeping 3QB's, or simply stick with 2 and go from there.

I'm guessing still 2 QB's...but it could affect things.

Same goes for FB-Do they keep the traditional FB and try to keep Charles in at H-back? While I think Connor will be great for ground and pound moments, can you imagine lining up with Gresham, Eifert, and Charles leaking out of the back-field? That's a lot of big dudes that can catch and run with the ball, and a defensive match-up nightmare for DC's.

Eifert is a match up nightmare all by himself. Gresham... he'll drop the ball anyhow. Charles, not so much.

Agreed, but I'm not trying to say that OC will be Tony Gonzalez out of the back-field. Just that on a small/short swing pass/check down, (high % completion rate) that's a tough match-up. The guy is going to run away from LB's and mow-down CB's.

Of course, that matchup makes too much sense to actually be used, so nevermind.

I've been saying for the last few yrs that CIN has been stock piling high draft picks. Not all have panned out as the fans would like I'm sure but trades...

At this point in the season...every team has 80+ guys on the roster. They know teams will have to pare down in a few weeks...smarter to just wait for the cuts imo.
