The Bengals are going to cut a lot of valueable guys that are worth soemthing to other teams. Why not try to trade a couple of them for picks next year to offset the loss?

I know teams are trying to evaluate their own players and not interested in adding much outside help right now, but there are a few teams lacking depth at RB, CB, etc. Why not try to get a little value.

Too much talent based on what? There is no doubt the Bengals are very talented almost across the board with their first stringers and at a few backup defensive positions. But nobody that is going to get cut is worth any more salt than the very back end of other rosters, at least not enough that a team would trade a pick for one.

The bottom of the roster is really strong, but it's hard to get a draft pick on cut down day. there's no trade leverage

Very True. The Bucs main need is depth at almost every position, we have starters but no back ups that can play "In Case Shit...". Lets say the Bengals have a Good Dlineman that would provide the depth the Bucs need. Why trade a pick for that guy, when a guy just a tab worse will also be cut. These guys will not be starters and are really just Emergency plans. You dont trade the Future for these kind of players.

Now one thing that Might happen, is teams RAID your Practice Squad. All they have to do is sign them to their 53 man roster, or pay them more money. That is where the Bengals could get hurt. No Place to put them on the Bengals 53 man roster. Again though, no one will trade for these players, when all they they have to do is sign them.

Bengals looked good against the Falcons. You guys should end up having a very good year. Good luck.

You can trade a guy like Robert Geathers, a guy that is considered a starter, but really just a backup, and has some time on his contract that makes him interesting to other teams.

You still have a guys at defensive end that is more than adaquate and even a guy like Harrison that could slide down into that role if necessary. Moch is also being moved to DE now as well.

A guy like Bernard Scott or even Cedric peerman who is a special teams ace, is a great backup RB, has quicks, and power, good blocker, etc. Maybe you trade Burkhead instead of losing him on the practice squad.

Other teams trading for these players insure they land on their team rather than having to get into a bidding war with another franchise and potentially lose them.

What if you trade Ghee for value now who was a 3rd round pick, or Shawn Prater?

These are just examples. Not saying any should be traded now, but some guys would make sense rather than just losing them for zero value. No one agrees with this? I am not saying it would be easy to trade any of these guys...but one or two maybe?

You are not going to trade a vet like Geathers that just re-signed with you when he was a free agent. It's just not done in football and it would make agents advice their clients against signing contracts with the Bengals. Why 'choose' to stay with a franchise and then watch as they move you somewhere you didn't choose?

Trades can happen, but most of the time they involve guys that never really caught on with the team or have had some issues. We got Reggie Nelson in a trade right before a season because Jax was hard up for corners and they had given up on him. That was probably one of the best training camp deals ever (for us anyway). We grabbed Taylor Mays in a trade for a 7th. So I wouldn't be surprised to see some action -- Just nothing too dramatic.

No teams will trade right now unless a superstar is on the block. Why trade when you can just wait until the team cuts the guy?

You wait for a certain guy to get cut, 1) he might not actually get cut, and 2) he is a free agent meaning you now have to negotiate against several possible teams versus having him outright during a trade.

To Cincygrad. I can see that with Geathers, but the idea is still feasible with other players.

Trades rarely happen in the NFL. While I agree the Bengals have some nice depth, no one is going to trade a draft pick for a guy who is clearly about to get cut (you woudn't be calling about a trade if they weren't).

Yeah, you might have to compete against other teams, but at the same time other players are going to be cut who are similar/just as good. You may not get A, but you can get B or C and at 2 or 3 spots down on the depth chart, the difference between A and C is marginal. They are guys who will be playing a special teams position on kick-off. That is, if they can even get to the active roster on game day.

You are over-valuing our players. Every team has players with potential they hope will pan out without needing to give up additional compensation for.

Nobody is trading for Ryan Whalen. Nobody is trading for Robert "catch the ball hard" Sands. And as grad mentioned, the Bengals are not trading any integral pieces.

Didn't Sands get the boot after running into trouble?

Did you say the same things when we traded for Nelson or Leonard??? My point is you never know....

Trading Reggie Nelson was a comically bad move by a bad organization. I'm still not exactly sure what Jax hoped to accomplish with that move.

I'd be more than pleased to get a deal like that again.

We didn't trade picks for either of those players.

Futhermore, Nelson was a 3rd (?) year player who had one good season and one bad season. He was one of those potentially "integral" players (former 1st round pick) that just no longer fit within what Jax was looking to do. We gave up a CB (David Jones) for him.

Leonard was traded for another player. A guy on the back end of their roster for a guy on the back end of our roster. Nobody gave up a draft pick as Crash is suggesting other teams may do.

Edit: Trades for players can happen. Trades for draft picks (for back end players) will never happen.

Oh well, just thoughts.

I am going to hate final cut down day this year. I feel we are going to have to cut guys that deserve to be on this roster but don't get too because Marvin is still stuck on Tates nuts, or Mays, etc. Plus, there are several guys I would like to see stick around, like Sanzenbacher, Skelton, Burkhead, etc.

It is what it is though.

As potentially strong as the roster looks, there is still one question that hangs over the Bengals' season. What about Dalton? He didn't look any better to me last Thursday, though I know he didn't have Green and Whit, but I still question his accuracy and decision making skills.

Give him some time.... He just started taking pilates and sometimes you don't see real results for a couple of months. I'm sure he'll be an all-pro soon.
