I thought the Devils had a legit shot before the Kovy debacle as they could have presented some pretty attractive deals. However I agree that Burke is demanding far too much for a player on the wrong side of 30 with 1 year left on his deal.

Honestly the way Burke and fans talk about him it's as if they expect to get a player like Crosby in return. News flash. Kaberle is a decent player, but not as good as Burke and fans seems to think. It's no wonder he hasn't pulled the trigger after all this time. The deals aren't "good" enough? No, it means other GM's know Kaberle isn't amazing to give up a really good player in return.

I mentioned on another forum that Burke should just try and get something for him before it's to late. Maybe get some really high draft picks because the Leafs are in rebuild mode. Of course all the Leafs fans got ticked off and disagreed with me.

He's a good defenseman, great on the power play, maybe not the most solid guy in his own end but very talented. If you put him next to a guy with a nice one timer and good defensive acumen he would look a lot better. I'd say he's worth a 1rst, or a good forward in return. However if you scan the comment strings over on TSN, he's most certainly being dangled as trade bait for Bobby Ryan, Steven Stamkos, or possibly the entire roster of the Chicago Blackhawks.

I agree that he is being overrated. He has also said that he wants to re-sign in the east, so for half the teams he would be a one year rental. I think some Toronto fans are going to be disappointed in the return they will get.

If Toronto had never been a part of his career, would he still be overrated? They have to pump you up when you get there and do the same when you leave, imo. All that is left is the grumbling in between.

There is a rumor that Simmonds from the Kings may be the trade bait. I don't think I like that for one year of Kaberle. Simmonds is one of my favorite players.

Am I the only person who thinks he's very overrated?

Overrated by who?

By Burke? Very overrated.

By most everyone else? I don't really think so.

I think he's a good player. Was a 50 point scorer on a shitty Toronto team with only a $4.25 million cap hit.

Toronto was supposed to be very good defensively last season. They signed Komisarek & Beauchemin. Traded for Dion. They already had Kaberle & Schenn. Kaberle is supposed to be a defenseman. He plays offense FIRST.

So did Paul Coffey...? Your point?

I have no idea why people hate offensive defensemen so much. A team needs a good mix. Not every player is going to be great on offense and defense like Nicklas Lidstrom.

Kaberle is what he is. A good offensive defenseman. That's what people know him for. I don't see many people overrating him as a great defensive defenseman or anything.

I'd certainly take a balanced blueline with a guy like Kaberle on my team over 6 "defensive-first" guys that can't score.

I don't understand why Simmons keeps popping up in LA trade rumours. I can see why other teams would want him, but why would LA want to lose him? He's a very productive player on a rookie contract. those are very important players to have.

yes, he should be in some rumours (as that's what other teams might be asking for), but he seems to be in nearly every rumour.

I saw on another board that Toronto is the number one choice. Bet you can guess who said it. :)

The point is the Leafs couldn't stop anybody from scoring. I realize Kaberle is an offensive defenseman but I don't think he's responsible enough in his own zone.

Comparing Kaberle to Coffey is a joke. That's something Burke would do.

Wasn't comparing their skill levels. You said Kaberle puts offense first. So did Coffey. No joke about it.

Toronto couldn't stop people from scoring because their goaltending sucked and their forwards weren't much better. Hard to be a good defensive club when your forwards can't keep the puck. Having the worst PK in the league didn't help either.

None of this really matters anyway, cause as stated, Kaberle is an offensive defenseman. The "point" of the Leafs not being able to stop anyone isn't really a knock on Kaberle. If you wanna call the rest of their shutdown defenseman overrated, go right ahead.

Kaberle puts up good numbers for a defenseman with little offensive firepower around him. He's not a liability in his own zone, so he's well worth his cap hit.

We'll have to agree to disagree on Kaberle. I think he is a liability in his own zone. Burke & the Toronto media have done everything they can to make Kaberle out to be a great defenseman. He simply isn't & never was or will be.
