This isn't necessarily Mariners related, but I'm working in Toronto at the moment and got to go to the Blue Jays vs Yankees game last night. It just so happened to work out that I got to see Paxton start, and it wasn't the Paxton we were used to seeing that's for sure. Only time will tell with Justus, but this trade along with the Cano trade are looking better and better each day. Back to the game, always a fan of Smoak even though he was pretty lackluster with the M's; good to be able to root for him again for one night. The Evil Empire got Vladed' in the 8th, it was great.

Irrespective of the eventual outcome of the trade, I'll always root for former Mariners. I have a soft spot for them and seeing them play well gives me a nice thing to groan about during my daily self-loathing of being a Mariners fan.

Kind of a random thought, but one of the nice developments this season has been the great offensive production we've had from our catchers this year.

Through 65 games prior to today's game they have combined for 12 HRs, and a .282/.349/.470 line.

Last year the catchers combined for 22 HRs, and a .205/.268/.388 line.

Have no idea why Servais pulled Milone and put in Elias. Milone's pitch count was good and he was doing a decent job holding the Stros and then Elias comes in and blows it for us. Hope Servais is asked that question in post game cuz it just didn't make any sense to me.

Whether we win this game or lose this game, it has been a fun game to watch. This is the kind of game where it is worth watching the Mariners. Bases loaded, one out and Vogey at the plate...but he strikes out. Now 2 outs and Seager at the dish-flies out. :L

Not the "fun" part of the game I was talking about. :pound:

Bases loaded bottom of the 14th with 2 outs and Shed Long at the dish. Score Houston 8 and M's 7. Last chance to pull off a W. Didn't make it....flied out...game over.

Lots of missed opportunities...buy hey, this is a "rebuild" year so can't expect a whole hell of a lot. But oh so close.

Longs AB was disappointing but hopefully he learns from it. Facing a guy who had no control and had already walked 3 guys, he swings at first pitch out of the zone. Then after working a 3-1 count he swings at ball 4 which would have tied the game to fly out. Young guy who is still figuring it out but you need to make a struggling pitcher throw a strike there.

Mitch Haniger is heading the the DL (the old man in me refuses to say IL) with a ruptured testicle.

I didn't see what happened, but he's had some bad luck with injuries. Took a fastball to the face a few years ago and now ruptured his testicle.

God I can't imagine how bad that must hurt. My balls hurt just thinking about it.

That is absolutely painful to read or even think about it.

I hate to be that guy but whats also painful is he probably out for at least a couple of months now and that is only gonna hurt his trade value in the winter since he was already having a poor year. Just another situation we are probably not gonna play right

I have no idea how long that type of injury takes to heal from. I'd have to imagine the biggest issue is the pain. Adrian Beltre suffered a similar injury, but I'm unsure how long he was out.

Now I'm starting to wish we would've waited a bit longer to trade Jay Bruce. With the way he has continued to hit, we could've boosted his trade value a bit.

Hindsight is always 20/20 though. At least now Braden Bishop will get some regular playing time.

How the hell did he rupture a testicle?? I'm not gonna make any jokes about this cuz I'm seriously wondering how that kind of injury happened. I've never heard of a "ruptured testicle" before. Can anyone enlighten me about how something like that happened?

Just looked on the M's site and read what happened to Mitch. If I paid more attention to the game when I'm watching it, I probably would have seen what happened. Can't imagine how he could stay in the game for a while after something like that happened. :noidea:

After taking a pitch to the face he started wearing the face guard on his helmet. I wonder what he will wear to protect his nuts after this.

Next time he's up to bat, he might look like this:

When I was in sports we wore a cup to protect our nuts and bolt.

Jesus, I can’t in my entire life remember a batter fouling the ball off on his junk. I’ve seen essentially everywhere else but damn that takes a perfect combo to hit a foul into your boys.

Kikuchi serving up batting practice for the Angels. 3 straight bombs in the bottom of the 4th.

Hey Scott- Maybe you should pull Kikuchi?? He's obviously rattled and has lost it- any dumb shit can see that.

It's about time you got off your dead ass and pulled him. You are some kind of manager

Haniger has had some seriously bad luck with injuries. Fastball to the face and a foul ball to the nuts. Can't imagine that has ever happened to a player before.

Kikuchi has really struggled his last 3 outings. Hopefully he figures something out.
