Man this is embarrassing I really hate this they are playing with no motivation I will say this though all our ass kickings so far game against playoff teams with good rosters like the Astros, Yankees, Red Sox, Twins, Padres, Indians, and Cubs.

So after we get our asses beat today and tomorrow the next 13 games will be against the A's, Rangers and Angels if we get our asses beat from them then its over
How many sentences was that supposed to be? So much punctuation was skipped, couldn't tell if it was one or eleven.

Never mind, I'll just use one sentence to respond:

It's already over.

As long as fans keep going to games and spending their money at the pink panther, we won't ever have a winning team. Owners have no motivation to change things up. It's like this: IF IT AIN'T BROKE, WHY BOTHER TO FIX IT. Problem with that philosophy is that they are so off base, they can't even see that it is, in fact, broke. They're making their money so who the fuck cares? :noidea:View attachment 205521

Just to illustrate the length of a MLB season vs a hot start, April 11th:

I wouldn't support whispers of changing the approach until June 1 at the earliest. If by some miracle this team is still impressing at that point you can start thinking about making his season worth pursuing.

It's almost June 1st. Probably shouldn't put many eggs in the "buying" basket.

Top pick in the draft is getting closer.
Once that's secured by mid July at the end of the season Servias and Dip should be fired.

Some fun facts for you guys.

The Mariners are on pace to allow 972 runs. That would be the most by a team since 2000 when the Rangers allowed 974.

The Mariners are on pace to commit 172 errors. That would be the most by a team since in 1992 when the Dodgers committed 174 errors.

We're making history boys!

It seems every year the M's manage to make history- the negative kind of history not the positive kind.

The "profit" you see isn't why owners invest in MLB teams. Major league franchises appreciate at a really high rate. The team was purchased in 2016 for $1.2b and is now worth $1.6b. So in reality, the owners have made $400m in 3 years.

cheers for the response.

I google and only got 2016 profits but yes, the appreciation is big and I assume owners focus on appreciation as it's logical.

No problem bud.

Owners of MLB/NBA/NFL teams can technically run a large deficit and still rack up a lot of money simply through the appreciation of their franchise. The Mariners appreciated 9% and I think the MLB average was something like 7%.

Don't know much about how the appreciation thing works for MLB teams, but I assume the more winning a franchise is, the more the franchise would be worth. ie: the Yankees franchise has more value than let's say the Royals. I would think if you want to win big, you've got to invest big. In the Mariner's case, they need to invest "smarter" if they want to win big. :heh:

Thanks for sharing the link. My understanding is ownership of the M's also include a percentage by Nintendo and Root Sports. Is that incorrect?

I'm not all that sure on what contributes to the appreciation of a franchise or how value is calculated.

With the Mariners, they were purchased for $1.2b in 2016 and are now worth $1.6b.

My assumption is that the value has increased due to the following:
- T-Mobile naming rights deal
- Television revenue
- Seattle's massive population increase (over 120,000 since 2010)
- Seattle's economic growth

So most of the calculation probably stems from the growth of the city and the increased value of the market for baseball in Seattle and the Pacific Northwest. If the Mariners started winning, the ownership would make a fuck ton of money as the team would become more valuable.

Dip is making a bad career decision keeping Servais... I guess he doesn’t like being a GM, because he’s stubbornly going down with the ship apparently ...

I just looked it up and according to Wikipedia - which cited two different sources - says that John Stanton's ownership group owns 90% of the franchise and Nintendo of America retained a 10% stake after the sale. I'm unsure how many individuals comprise of Stanton's group, but by being CEO of his LP, he's the de-facto owner.

According to this following link, the Mariners are the majority holder in Root Sports which it would seem is owned by DirectTV's Sports Network. So it's the Mariners that "own" Root Sports.

Worth noting that I was just looking at runs allowed. We've given up an incredible amount of unearned runs which contributes to the total. If I looked at earned runs, it might be a bit different. The two issues compound each other.

Yep, I had that wrong about Root Sports. Not sure where I picked that up where they had a percentage of ownership of the M's. Well, looks like the game is about to start so I guess it's time to go out and mow the lawn. Hope Kikuchi does well today. :noidea:

Lol I even forgot there was a game today. At least now I have something to have on in the background instead of the news.

On the bright side, the more the team loses, the better our draft pick will be. I skimmed this article a few days ago and for what it's worth 17 of the best 60 pitchers in baseball right now (albeit they used a weird criteria) were drafted in the top 10.

Where do baseball's elite starting pitchers come from?

Obviously I root for the team to win, but we all knew we wouldn't make the playoffs this year. Would be nice to get a strong pick as a consolation prize for our misery.

I'm fine with that. Once the Mariners titanic their way to the bottom, it's time to clean house and bring in a GM not from the Angels organization rather from a winning ball club with a future GM waiting in the wings. Let him pick the next manager from a winning organization and go from there. That's the hope.
