I see what you are saying and yeah if by the all star break this team shows its true colors and they are terrible than by all means. As far as salary cap goes I don't see the problem in paying those guys because its really just the rest of this season for encarnacion and next season for bruce. Its not like its the NBA where we have a salary cap and we need to create space because the cap is tight, or even Baltimores situation with Davis on the hook for him all the way until 2023, I don't see the mariners spending a ton of money on free agents anytime soon either so what benefits does saving all that money by not having Jay Bruce and Edwin E on the roster? I don't think any hitting prospects in our system are really ready to come up yet and Vogelbach is tearing it up right now but could easily go back to hitting .200 the rest of the season.

I see what you are saying about missing out on trading away players at the deadline because it kinda stings that Cruz just walked out of seattle and we got nothing for him. Also idk what we would really get for an aging DH because he only managed a 1 year deal in free agency so I don't think many teams value him enough to give up a worth while prospect. Now if the blue jays want to trade Vlad Gurerro jr for Jay bruce ill take that yesterday but I wouldn't just sell them off if we are still hanging around past the all star break.

I see your point about the money, but it's not just about paying them. My bigger point is that these guys can be traded for prospects that will actually help the team in the future. Additionally - as I mentioned in the previous post - they make it difficult to get playing time for a guy like Vogelbach who has never got a consistent opportunity at the major league level. Once Seager gets back from his injury, that means Ryon Healy will be back at 1B. That means you have Vogelbach, Bruce, Encarnacion and Healy all battling to get ABs in two positions (1B and DH).

Sweep!! My goodness.

This team was down 4-0 and then 6-3 to come back and win. They had 0 run thru 5 innings.

Mariners improved to 13-2.

Looking ahead, the next two series at home will be a real test for this team against the Astros and Indians.

I'll be happy with a 3-3 split this homestand. Anything more is bonus.

And keep that HR streak going!

Not gonna pretend to be an expert, but it seemed like both had tools but lacked the mental toughness portion. That's a tough thing to scout for but its essentially a huge x factor. Both guys changed their swings and stances multiple times and never seemed comfortable with themselves.

I think Zunino has mental toughness, he just got jerked around so much by the organization. Not trying to say he would’ve been a stud or anything but coming out of college he had a crap load tossed on his plate with little adjustment time in the minors. This is mostly why I prefer HS kids because there is no hurry to rush them up, they can go through slumps, learn to adjust, learn to get through the language barrier and essentially learn to be a pro. Zunino didn’t have really have that chance to go through the growing pains. With Ackley I have no clue on his mental makeup, he semi got rushed but he had nothing left to prove really in the minors and he did pretty well when he first got called up. But after Ackley I preferred HS position players then especially after Zunino.

This Astros series is going to be interesting because if they beat Verlander and Cole the way they did Sale. If they do I wonder if the whispers from the ownership about possibly signing Dallas Keuchel start to murmur in Jerry’s ear.

I wouldn't support whispers of changing the approach until June 1 at the earliest. If by some miracle this team is still impressing at that point you can start thinking about making his season worth pursuing.

I wouldn’t not saying I want them to be but if 60,000 fans show up and they do well I’m sure whispers from ownership. No matter what Jerry and Scott say, they aren’t the boss. Just a thought.

Here’s a whisper, Mariners signed Neftali Feliz to a minor league deal. Here’s a buy low deal that I like. Stay on track JeDi but continue to try and improve, I like the move.

Well if 60k fans show up to a 42k person stadium I'll agree

Yea I dont think either was handled properly and both were left to die in the pros. Ackley had a good for first six weeks and then was left to die in the pros in 2012 when he should have just been sent back down.

Zunino somewhat similar but the organization made and even bigger blunder. It started with thinking Montero could be an everyday catcher after a year of showing that wasnt the case. So once that bombed and they made their way through a few veteran catchers like Shoppach, Blanco and i think another I cant remember; they had no one else left in the organization. Just simply not having any kind of back up plan. And like Ackley, he looked ok at the start but then was left up here to die for 2 years because they refused to have any kind of back up plan for him. And when they finally got someone in Wellington Castillo, they traded him for a Jack Z special guy in Mark Trumbo. But yeah its too bad, put him in organization like the Cardinals or Dodgers and he could have been something.

I don't think any of us would like to trade
Voggy at this point
I found myself..wanting to at times..
And even suggesting Tampa, and Detroit

Well boys..the price would be 5to 6 times
Higher at this point..
Tampa should be Scoobydooing..aaaarrrgghh
But I think he is part of the mariners future
So..maybe not touchable...idk

LeBlanc (2-0, 4.76 ERA) vs. Miley (1-1, 2.31 ERA) 4/12/19 @ 7:10PM

Back home after a hugely successful road trip. M's are currently up 3.5 games in the division so for April, this is about as big a series as you can get with the Astros. The M's are hot right now and riding a 6 game winning streak, so are the Astros.

M's are averaging more than 7 runs per game through 15 games and have hit a HR in all 15 so far for an MLB record. They've also played teams that are near or at the bottom of their division. Be fun to see how they fair against the Stros.

M's: 13-2 (5-1 H)
Astros: 8-5 (2-5 A)

Go M's.

I agree regarding Zunino.

Prior to his call up, he only had around 90 or so games played in the minors and was hitting .227/.297/.478 in AAA. Unfortunately it just worked out that Zunino is a guy with monster power, great pitch framing ability, but making contact consistently has just never really happened for him. With his bat, he's at best the guy he was in 2017, and at worst the guy who we saw in 2018. He will probably stick around in the majors for a while due to his power and pitch framing abilities, but I'd be stunned to ever see him hit above .260.

Friday and Saturday night games are always big hits, so the attendance on Friday and Saturday should be strong. I'm already getting texts from friends of mine I told the team wouldn't finish above .500 (people who can't name more than 5 regulars on the team), trying to argue I was massively off the mark with that prediction.

I hadn't checked MLBTR, but I agree with that.

Man I haven't heard that name in forever. I remember like 9 or 10 years ago he was supposed to be the next big thing.

I feel like im the only one who thinks that Kyle seager shouldn't be entitled to a starting role its not like he was much of a hitter last year I think he gets a lot of playing time because he has a pretty solid glove. I think by the time middle june comes around after his rehab in the minors assuming no other set backs I think someone will drop off onto the bench and I feel it will be jay bruce. He is showing good power but hitting .190 striking out every other AB wont make a lot of case to be a starter on the team.
