He and Ackley are epitome of why it is so risky drafting college players over HS players and why a baseball scout is one of the hardest jobs in sports.
From the pitching perspective there were many busts as well. The Big 3 never came to fruition. This organization have a hard time developing players and the last true successful development was A-Rod? But his skillsets would be successful anywhere.

M’s have now scored 110 runs for the season. Next closest? The mighty Dodgers with 89.

M’s also set MLB record with 14 straight games with a HR to start the season.

I think the hit rate is higher for pitching prospects that come straight out of HS too? Not totally sure but it just seems there are more busts when drafting a prospect out of college at least from Pac 10/12 schools. I don’t know, it’s a crap shoot and maybe it is just the Mariners who struggle with college players.

So I know I am getting ahead if we are still in a good spot by midseason or in the wild card race are we buyers or sellers at the trade deadline?
No reason to answer this for 2 months at least

He and Ackley are epitome of why it is so risky drafting college players over HS players. You may stud out in college but generally you want HS position players.

Not gonna pretend to be an expert, but it seemed like both had tools but lacked the mental toughness portion. That's a tough thing to scout for but its essentially a huge x factor. Both guys changed their swings and stances multiple times and never seemed comfortable with themselves.

If Jay Bruce doesn't go into the coaching gig after his playing days are over it would be a shame to MLB baseball..

Wrapping up this very very solid road trip today.

Mike Leake (2-0, 2.92 ERA) vs. Jorge Lopez (0-1, 4.09 ERA) @ 10:15A

Leake seeking his 3rd win of the season.

M's have scored 110 runs for the season through 14 and have tied the HR record with the 2002 Indians for most consecutive games with a HR to start the season.

M's: (12-2, 7-1 A)
Royals: (2-9, 2-6 H)

Everyone in the lineup today has OBP of over .300. Lowest guy is Haniger at .313 and he's arguably the best hitter the M's have.

Reality finally settles in with the Mariners. I think we all knew it wouldn't last forever. :nono:

This ump has been atrocious today. Giving KC pitchers 3 inches off both sides and pinching Leake since the 1st.

With Dee Gordon's HR, the M's set MLB record for most consecutive games with a home run to open the season.

Into the Royals bullpen now... this is the chance for them to do some damage.

Welp.. there's that. Down by 3 now after getting close with 3-4.

Today's game has that same old feel to it.

Tie game! Haniger just has a hell of a lot of talent and no sense that pressure gets to him. Love to see that.

At the end of the season, he's going to be their best hitter.

Then again... these are the 2019 M’s.

Incredible.
