He and Ackley are epitome of why it is so risky drafting college players over HS players and why a baseball scout is one of the hardest jobs in sports.

From the pitching perspective there were many busts as well. The Big 3 never came to fruition. This organization have a hard time developing players and the last true successful development was A-Rod? But his skillsets would be successful anywhere.

M’s have now scored 110 runs for the season. Next closest? The mighty Dodgers with 89.

M’s also set MLB record with 14 straight games with a HR to start the season.

I think the hit rate is higher for pitching prospects that come straight out of HS too? Not totally sure but it just seems there are more busts when drafting a prospect out of college at least from Pac 10/12 schools. I don’t know, it’s a crap shoot and maybe it is just the Mariners who struggle with college players.

Not gonna pretend to be an expert, but it seemed like both had tools but lacked the mental toughness portion. That's a tough thing to scout for but its essentially a huge x factor. Both guys changed their swings and stances multiple times and never seemed comfortable with themselves.

If Jay Bruce doesn't go into the coaching gig after his playing days are over it would be a shame to MLB baseball..
