Pretty sure he's an Oilers fan jstew, you have to forgive him, exciting hockey in April is foreign to him.

I just hope the Flames score first tonight because if the Coyotes get the lead, you know boring Dave Tippett will just sit and trap for the rest of the game. Losing, boring hockey is no way to sell tickets in the desert.

At least Brad Fay put him in his place right after. That was a fantastic game with great chances, saves and emotion.

So sportsnet comedy just gets lumped in with hnic now :) makes total sense actually

I hear they have Vancouver Canucks commemorative banners with all of their Stanley Cup wins listed on them on sale too. Here's a picture

They're flammable too, so perfect for rioting

if i can be serious for a second ... the thing that really sucks about the hnic / sportsnet coverage is that I find the "analysts" dont actually talk about whats going on in a game ... like ever

Aw Shucks Ronnie shelved for the playoffs. it's a start
Ron MacLean will not appear as a host during NHL playoffs
However, Canadian viewers may not be happy seeing MacLean in a reduced role as a host. Last November, an Angus Reid poll found that 74 per cent of 1,504 respondents felt MacLean’s lesser role on HNIC hurt the show’s brand.

Far from his biggest fan, but I'd still rather hear him than Strombo or Millard. I could live with Marek, though.

Fuck, listening to Kypreos and Maclean all playoffs is going to drive me insane.

i actually kinda miss awe shucks ronnie after watching a year of strombo - lol

ive pinpointed what i hate about sportsnet/hnic coverage ... theyre out to lunch (not new - a pre strombo phenomenon)

this always happens ... they are not on point ... ever

if something occurs in a game ... they dont even touch on it ... i dont know how many times something has happened in a game theyve covered and they barely touch on it and its the hot topic on twitter and what people are actually discussing

what i hate most is (like i said) when something happens in a game (sorry i cant pinpoint something specific .. maybe its because its so often) and you expect them to touch on it in game ... youll get them throwing to Healey talking about something inane and irrelevant solely because its a preproduced segment (either pregame highlights or highlight compilations from 10 minutes ago) ... theyre not on the ball if that makes any sense ... and that probably boils down to telecast production/direction

If they talked about it in-game they wouldn't be able to get clicks for it on their website for the next two days.

I blame that on bringing in too many people and not enough experts. sure most are experienced hockey people but have no balance on TV. I think they need a certain amount of support from inside the control room to show these issues and those guys are clueless as they cant just hire the best of the best. they have to hire everyone.

I dont miss ron, I miss what CBC provided for those moments and that mostly came from the control rooms producers etc... I think those guys were the unheard and unseen heros of HNIC. they were spectacular

again I cant think of a specific issue (aside from the Ottawa goal no goal from the weekend) but even in the cbc hnic days ... you will see a close call say on an offside that was missed or a head shot that wasnt initially caught (maybe Kesler on Dorsett from earlier this season) and no one on their telecast catches it right away ... not the pxp ... not the colour guy ... not the production staff in the truck

and then you go onto twitter and the bad or missed call for example is all anyone and everyone that is watching the game is talking about

and then the broadcast will come back from commercial and just when you think they will bring up the issue, they throw to Glenn Healey showing a highlight pack and a graphic that Phil Kessel skated 10 miles per hour on the last rush

and then they go to intermission and just when you think they will bring up the issue they start talking about how badly one team is being outshot

and then finally in the 3rd period theyll bring it up

and i dont want to blame that solely on the pxp broadcast crew ... what are the guys in the trucks watching?

Just have Elliot Friedman all intermission long.
break it up with 3 minutes of PJ Stock and Kypreos flinging poo at each other and call it a day

McLean became too much of a self-righteuos smug shithead.
Couldn't put away the referee's union card no matter what
