sportsnet getting pretty fucking tedious.

During the first intermission, they showed McJebus' goal 4 or 5 times from the EDM-BOS game.
Not a single time did they show Boston's goals, and it wasn't until the very end of intermission that they mentioned the score in the game. (Edmonton was losing, fwiw)

Somebody should remind Harnarayan Singh and Louie DeBrusk that they're doing a national broadcast and not an Oilers regional game.

They're good announcers (IMO) but you can't actively cheer for Edm on a national broadcast.

Yeah, I agree, I like Singh's energy, but you should try your best to remain unbiased on a national broadcast. Save the homerism for the regional games.

Bieksa uses the NHL throwing the book at Torres as an example of what he thinks needs to be done to Cousins.

Idiot completely missed the point.

As we discussed last week, I just don't see a scenario where the NHLPA would call for harsher discipline to be handed down to a player unless it was an en masse sort of thing (you know, something along the lines of 2/3rds of players believe this guy is a danger on the ice to opposing players). A single player going to the NHLPA to call for a stricter suspension for a fellow union member is not going to happen because the player's name would ultimately be leaked and we all know he would be labelled a rat, snitch, coward etc and no team would want anything to do with him.

It's not a good situation however when we have a Department of Player Safety that is doing a terrible job. Players have become emboldened to take cheap shots at opposing players because the DoPes continue to drop the ball. They need to impose much lengthier suspensions, instead we have the opposite where dirty hits have no supplementary discipline attached.

The above all said, maybe it is time (some would say long past time) for Marty Walsh (NHLPA president) to do a dressing down of George Parros and the Department of Player Safety and call for stricter discipline of players. Marty should be looking out for the best interests of all the union members he represents, not just the few who continually commit these types of hits. Smarter people than me can do the wordsmithing on what should be included in a statement to the league.

not sure what your issue was with his point.

He called Raffi out for being a dangerous player. Cousins is also a dangerous player. Doesn't come in with the same cannonball velocity as Torres used to, but is compiling a resume of pretty shitty plays.
The highlight package showed a headshot on a defenseless player on his knees, a late headshot on Sheifele, and a dangerous hit from behind on Gubberson. Any one of those could have easily been stretcher time.

seems like a simple enough segment. Cousins needs to change his game, and either his teammates or the league needs to get his attention.

My issue is with Wyshinski having an issue with Bieksa’s point and defending Cousins as if he hasn’t been headhunting on those plays. Guess I worded that poorly lol

There was also a good comment in Wyshinsky’s post where, yeah, Torres deserved all that punishment but he also grew up in the game at a time where shit like that was common place. He could’ve tried harder to remove it from his game but it was kinda already cooked into him by the time he became an NHLer.

Cousins has no excuse, we’re far beyond that era now.

It would be great if the NHL could put people in the department of player safety whose careers were not defined by giving dirty hits, but whose careers were affected by receiving dirty hits.

Kariya, Lindros, Neeley, Marc Savard. Guys like that. Parros is, was, and always will be a clown.

CBC/Sportsnet should have canned both Cherry and MacLean at the same time.
I agree but can understand why they didn't, maybe they thought too much change all way once.... but how he is still there years later is ridiculous

not sure if it was posted, but that picture McLean sent out at Don's 90th birthday....
apparently McLean was not invited, crashed the party, and Don was not happy about it.

Cherry has not forgiven McLean for throwing him under the bus.
