It's not all about basketball; the Michigan State Spartans are soaking up some culture during their tour of Italy.

Take, for instance, seniors Matt Costello and Colby Wollenman talking about their visit to the Pantheon in one of the team's video blogs from Rome.

"Which historical figure in this Pantheon do you appreciate the most and why?" Wollenman asked, referring to the famous people entombed there.

"Michelangelo," Costello answered, "and that is because he's the only one that I know."

"Michelangelo's not in here, it's Raphael," Wollenman said.

"Dang it!" Costello said. "We were talking about all the Ninja Turtles earlier, and it got me mixed up."

last weekend Sparty hosted over 200 football AND basketball recruits at the Oregon/MSU game...

today, Cassius Winston gave Tom Izzo the nod...making MSU's 2016 class one of the best in the country.
(Miles Bridges was also at the game; is good friends with Winston; announcing 03OCT.)

He announces this afternoon. You really think they'll land him? I'm the ever pessimist when it comes to Gophers basketball recruiting. With that said, he'll be the best player the Gophers have landed since Royce White, and unfortunately, we all know how that turned out. What could have been.

O it's basically a guarantee. Unless UNC made a secret offer over the weekend, even then still probably gophers.

He didn't even visit another school. Cancelled Texas. And Marquette my favorite team has been said by those following the situation to be his second favorite and He hasn't had contact in weeks.

He's gonna be a goph and it's a huge get for Pitino!!!

PF Eric Curry announces tomorrow as well.

Many had him as a Arkansas lock but he visited Minny with Coffey and conveniently waited til after Coffey made his decision so I think there is a decent chance Pitino swayed him.

Would be another big get because while not nearly as good as Coffey...PF is a huge need.

I'm fascinated to see this years Badgers basketball team. Nigel Hayes and Bronson Koenig are as good building blocks as you can find. I really think rs freshman Ethan Happ will have a nice year, during the Red and White scrimmage he looked the part. I'll also say Charlie Thomas is going to get minutes.

painful, but not totally unexpected...Augustana is currently high ebb DivII.

2007. Preseason #8 Michigan State lost to Grand Valley State (who led the entire second half) in 2 OTs.

We apparently won a "secret" scrimmage over Northern Iowa 72-57, with Vitto Brown and Zak Showalter having big games. Throw in Happ, Hayes, and Koenig, and our starting lineup is actually looking really good. Maybe this won't be a relative rebuilding year (ie 5-6 seed) that I thought it would be.
