MSU is not a title contender. They rely to much on an average to just above average player. Izzo will do his March Magic and get this team further than expected but they just don't have enough horses this year. Regardless its still terrific coaching job by Izzo.

Next year is their year.

MSU played fine. All but two losses were by five or fewer points. Had we shot like we did today, they all would have been wins. It's just unlucky that they got us on the one day that we decided to make open looks.

Wisconsin isn't good. They have losses to WIU, Milwaukee, NW, and Georgetown among others. Wisconsin is 10-9 for a reason. Also, maybe the reason why wisconsin isn't shooting good is because they don't have good talent. This tells me this was probably more of a fluke than anything else.

Being 10-9 is probably a bit flukish*, but you are right. At some point, when you spend a whole season missing easy shots, it's no longer a slump. It becomes reality. I still think this team is probably as good as their KenPom rating (#60) if not a little bit better (because I do think while we aren't good at shooting, some guys are in a legitimate slump). With the number of autobids, that is not good enough.

I still think, though, that a loss to Wisconsin on a day when we are shooting bad isn't a terrible loss. Outside of Oklahoma, I think one can make a solid argument we win every if we shoot like we did today.

*We are #342 in the KenPom luck metric out of 351, and we are 3-7 in 5 point games even after the close win today. So I think this team is probably closer to a team that is 12-7 with the #30 schedule.

Now Iowa needs to win at Rutgers and then at home vs Purdue and that'll set up a huge game at Maryland. One step at a time though. Next up is Rutgers.
