I think a 19-11(10-8) Iowa team is a lock to get in. No matter what happens in the B1G tourney. Even a loss to the awful trio(Minnesota, Rutgers, Nebraska) they'd still be a lock IMO. 19 wins against a top 15 SoS will sit really good w/the selection committee. That would probably put them on the 6-8 line. With a 6/7 more likely than an 8 seed IMO.
Hmm interesting. I would tend to agree but most bracketologies right now have Iowa on the 8 or 8 line. I really can't see Iowa going worse than 9-9 or 10-8 in B10 with 11-7 being more likely imo.

@mr.hockey4242

Marquette is projected to finish 18-13(7-11) in the BE, RPI of 123, SOS of 100. It has Marquette losing at Seton Hall, at Creighton and home against Providence. All I think a team like Marquette can win.

Win those three wins, Marquette's numbers look like this:

21-10(10-8) RPI: 74, SOS:99

Beat one of Nova/Xavier/Butler at home and:

22-9(11-7) RPI: mid 50's(depending on opponent, for this scenario I gave Marquette a win over Butler) SOS: 99

Yup. Basically everything you project out if we go 11-7 and then 1-1 in BET our RPI finishes at 53ish. That's still pretty bubble but no chance they leave a 23 win 4th place BE team out. And we got the Ellenson tie breaker over any other bubble team.

I just don't see 11-7 happening. Those 3 swing games you mentioned are definitely possible wins but 11-7 requires a lot and I think we're too inconsistent

I feel 23 wins is the bench mark for teams like MU and northwestern with their awful Non Numbers.

Big10 isn't that great this year but I would be absolutely floored if a 10 win Iowa got left out.

Just don't see it as possible.

In my bracketology I as well had Iowa on the 8 line. The main reason is that they do already have 3 losses, so you have to take that into account. The great thing they have going for them is their SoS, which is already at 50 going into conference play, which sets them up really well. Also another great thing going for them is that they play MSU, Purdue, MD, IU and Michigan NINE times. So basically out of the projected top 6 teams in the B1G they play the other 5 almost as much as possible, I doubt any other team has that type of schedule. The B1G hasn't been great this year, but the clear worst three teams(Minn, Rutgers and Neb) they only get once. Even the 4th and 5th worst teams, according to RPI(NW & OSU) Iowa only plays once.

Iowa will be able to take on a couple more losses do to that great SoS, which is upcoming. As far as now and in the moment, I do my brackets based on if the tournament started today. Iowa currently has an RPI of 37. Historically speaking an RPI that low will get you a double digit seed. Obviously, at this stage in the season going strictly by RPI would be a mistake(Kansas is at 28, Zona at 47) so I do factor wins/losses at this early stage. That's why I have them as an 8. Honestly, they could probably go .500 the rest of the way and not even drop, which is somewhat crazy to think, just goes to show how great their SoS will be.

I think 11-7 and 1-1 in BET would get Marquette in. That extra win would come against one of Nova/Butler/Xavier/Providence if Marquette does finish 4th in the BE. And the loss would be against a top 10 team at worst, maybe even top 5. IMO it'll be tough for Marquette to get to that number, but I would agree that seems like a safe bet to get them in the touney.

Yup. I'm not worried about 23-10 getting in. Like you said it means we also beat the 5th seed again too. I just don't see it possible. Even if we swept SJU, DU and Creighton. That's 5 more wins.

We do have the variables that are key. In a bubble scenario as a young team we'd be a much better team entering March than starting the year(not a Texas like free fall team) and a 1 and done lottery pick that march is built for. So 10-8 and 1-1 or 11-7 0-1 might work depending on bubble.

Go 0-2 vs SHU and GT this week and it's all moot lol

Even though it's the first game of BE play, the game against Seton Hall is absolutely huge. A little more so for Marquette given that it's a home game.

Yup. We're coming off our worst game since @rmilia1 boys smacked us around. Beat Presbyterian solely because God blessed us with more size.

I'm hoping BE play has be team energized big time. Since the Wisconsin rivalry win its been 2 games in 18 days against garbage teams.

Fischer and Ellensen vs Delgado is key. Hopefully it's one of his "I don't give a fuck games".

Otherwise your right. Providence becomes a must win or were in trouble.

And that's a wrap. Hung in for a half but if you can't shoot or out tough s team you won't win in BE.

Tough one for sure. Didn't expect SHU to win by that margin. I think if a 5th team is to come out of this conference it is probably them.

Solid team. They play real pyshsical which is needed in the league. The reding sucked for most and SHU found ways to play through.

We badly needn't a JUCO. But wojo doesn't make them a priority

If Michigan can go above .500 in the conference this season I will chalk that up as a win.

Michigan is playing much better lately. The team has found a cohesiveness they lacked in November. Should be an interesting B1G season. They'll make the tournament, I just don't see them making a run.

I'm sure if Iowa wins their first 12 B10 games and everyone still says they suck we will all whine again :) that said we will probably lose at home to Nebraska on Tuesday lol
