Michigan State senior guard Denzel Valentine will be out two to three weeks after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery today.

Izzo's not concerned.
Leading candidate for national POY and Izzo's not concerned?
meh. neither am I.
Spartans are so deep he'll hardly be missed.

Honestly other than the B10 opener in Iowa City MSU shouldn't really have any trouble going without Valentine the first few weeks in the B10. Minnedita, Illinois and PSU isn't exactly a murderers row lol

Michigan State getting all but one of the first place AP votes. The other? Went to Kansas, who lost to Michigan State a month ago. That writer must still be concentrating on football

Oakland blowing a big lead on msu at the palace.....

that's one hell of a good basketball team - the best State's played since Kansas...Oakland's Kahlil Felder (38pts) is phenomenal. I went through a half bottle of TUMS this game.

We lost to Rutgers last year in our only game without Kaminsky. In 2000, MSU lost to Wright State when Mateen was injured. It's tough to replace efficient, high-usage players and Valentine definitely fits the bill.

I would say calling those wins "good" is a bit of a stretch. It wouldn't surprise me if all three of those schools finished last in their respective conferences. Plus their OOC SoS of 333 is literally almost the worst in the country.

NW ia a decent team. They are better than they've been in 5 years or so. They're still going to need at least 9 B10 wins including a few over the top part of the league if they want to make the tourney

Honestly, I think they may need to get to 10 wins in B1G play and that might not even be enough. If they go 22-9(10-8), that'll leave them with an RPI in the low 70's and an SoS in the 130's. That would be the 2nd worst RPI to make the field since it expanded to 64. I just don't think 10 will be enough, let alone 9.

Depends on who they beat. That's why I think they'll need at least 2 or 3 wins over MSU/MARYLAND/PURDUE

10-8 in league play with wins over MSU and MD at home would put their RPI in the low 60's. At that point, my guess would be they would need to win 2 games in the B1G tourney to have a chance. Any combination of 11-7 in league play and I think they would be safe. One big problem with their league schedule is they only get those 3 teams for 4 games. Home and away with MD, home with MSU at Purdue. If they don't at least split with MD/MSU at home, I don't think they have a chance barring something unforeseen happening.

I think your right. Especially with the Big10 not being super strong.

I feel they need around 11 wins in conference and to hit that 23 mark just like my own team.

Don't see it happening in either case

Yeah if they go absolute best case scenario, meaning they win all the games they are favored in Sagarin's PREDICTOR and split the games in the 40% range, that would put them at 23-8(11-7), RPI of 52 and an SoS of 1301I think at best they are a double digit seed at that point and if they were to lose in their opening game in the B1G tournament, they might fall out.

Marquette is projected to finish 18-13(7-11) in the BE, RPI of 123, SOS of 100. It has Marquette losing at Seton Hall, at Creighton and home against Providence. All I think a team like Marquette can win.

Win those three wins, Marquette's numbers look like this:

21-10(10-8) RPI: 74, SOS:99

Beat one of Nova/Xavier/Butler at home and:

22-9(11-7) RPI: mid 50's(depending on opponent, for this scenario I gave Marquette a win over Butler) SOS: 99

@ericd7633 do you think 10-8 in B10 gets Iowa in? RPI is decent now and OOC SOS is solid

I think a 19-11(10-8) Iowa team is a lock to get in. No matter what happens in the B1G tourney. Even a loss to the awful trio(Minnesota, Rutgers, Nebraska) they'd still be a lock IMO. 19 wins against a top 15 SoS will sit really good w/the selection committee. That would probably put them on the 6-8 line. With a 6/7 more likely than an 8 seed IMO.
