Davis on the hire...

RB coach is the easiest job on the staff. It's the one position that relies mostly on instinct and natural ability. How many times have you heard a talking head say something like, "You can't coach that, " after a nice run? Recognize blitzes, block once or twice a day and run your ass off.

That's a man with more than just a good amount of experience, and he has been a part of some ridiculous Defenses.

The only poor Defense he was a part of was this past season where he joined for 1 year at Cincy. His track record, however, proves that to be a fluke.

In 2002, the Huskies' first Division I-A season, Hughes defense ranked fifth in the nation in passing defense (160.4 yards per game), 18th in passing efficiency defense (102.44 rating) and 19th in total defense (316.1 yards per game). The Huskies ranked 23rd nationally by forcing 32 turnovers.

2002 was his first year as Defensive Coordinator at UCONN and it was also their first year playing Division 1 football.

That's impressive.

I'm suddenly realizing this is a Championship staff Riley is building.

Langsdorf is also a great hire. Comes in to NY and coaches Eli to his best season he's ever had. Leads Oregon State to the best Offensive seasons they've ever had.

WE HAVE AN ACTUAL QB COACH!!! THAT'S SO EXCITING!

I actually believe we're gonna have a top 10 Defense on the reg with this staff.

No doubt in my mind.

Idk about all this guy's I'd like to stay with the previous system of promoting interns to coordinator positions but still have the HC make the final play calls for both offense and defense plus special teams

It's going to take some time to retool the o-line for a pocket QB. You just recruit a different style of player.

That's with a fairly confident assumption that that's the offense we're gonna see.

Whether there's at least a 60% QB on the roster is another factor.

I could see at least 2 years before it's playing to CC caliber.

"Pro-style" means a lot of different things..

Cam Newton runs a pro-style offense, so does Bama, etc

I can see us in an offense similar to K State, Waters isn't a pure passing QB and they run with him quite effectively, however not only do they have 1 WR over 1000 yds they have 2. Having that to open the run for a team like us could be huge

I didn't say I knew anything. I said it's a fairly confident assumption. I feel even more confident in assuming it's not gonna be read option style. If that's the case the rest of my statement would apply.

He was competing out west with Stanford, USC, Washington, Arizona St, etc... for pro-style QB's. Stanton was a guy he had a legit shot to get if he wanted to stay out west.

I doubt he recruited Stanton with the expectation of him being a good runner and 55% passer. 60+% more like.

I expect a Stanford style offense.

I think it'll be quick paced though.
