I could go the rest of my life without seeing the Huskers run the read option and die a happy man. Give me a QB under center, a blocker in the backfield and a TE that is part of the game plan. You know. Real football.

Is that a good idea? I mean, isn't the point of a Stanford-style offense to control the clock?

Not really. The point of every offense should be to score first.

Obviously that's the number one goal, but like it or not, to be a team that is built on going fast, you should probably be able to score fast. I just don't see that with a Stanford-type offense. Sustained drives, and keeping the opponent off the field are what make that work IMO.

This isn't gonna be Sam Keller 2.0 though.

Riley said he is very interested in having an Offense that revolves around a dual-threat QB. He said we will go down a path on Offense that is different from what he has done in the past.

Anyways, so glad we have Hughes.

That was a huge hire.

Our Defense is going to be outstanding.

Oak, to me in today college football if I was HC I'd want my offense to be able to speed it up or slow it down. I think it's a must. I've always been a great fan of power down hill run game like Stanford offense and I don't know why you couldn't run up tempo or slow it way down like they do against Nike U. Running an up tempo offense regardless of style will place stress on the defense.

Yup.

You don't have to run zone read option to run up-tempo.

Alabama brought in Kiffin for that purpose.

Do I think we'll be slinging the ball around though?

Absolutely not.

He was competing out west with Stanford, USC, Washington, Arizona St, etc... for pro-style QB's. Stanton was a guy he had a legit shot to get if he wanted to stay out west.

I doubt he recruited Stanton with the expectation of him being a good runner and 55% passer. 60+% more like.

What I was eluding to was that MR must have some idea of what to do with a dual threat QB like Stanton, who had offers from the O and Sarky while at Warshington at the time

Excellent, Levon Helm was one of few true vocal artists and Robbie Robertson, I never realized just how much he loved what he did. It was a joy to watch him.

Dead serious.

Read his bio. He was outstanding at UCONN.
