Neal relieved to hear from coaching staff

well I guess that does it then - Banker it is. Disappointed. At least he has DC experience where papoose did not. Still not thrilled. Just bring over your current OC as well and get it over with.

the only thing that gives me some hope for Banker is this in his Bio: He was promoted to defensive coordinator in 2001 after serving two seasons as the cornerbacks coach. As the coordinator the Chargers ranked 11th in the league for total defense and first for rush defense average.

it's not a lot to go on. he had some decent Ds at Oregon St, but never consistent. Been reading a lot of people talking about lack of depth at Oregon St due to the difficult place top recruit to, so hopefully with a talent and depth upgrade here, it won't be an issue.

Yeah, I know, I know...... It's just hard to be optimistic. To be honest, after really reading a lot about Riley, he seems to really want to focus on putting together a solid program here to do big things. Considering that, and managing bipolar feelings like I have, you could assume that with his vast experience he knows exactly what the fuck he's doing.

Also, the longer we go without an OC the happier I am. More indicative that he's looking elsewhere.

From what I have read, Riley hasn't even contacted Kevin Steele or Ed Orgeron?! We all know what loyalty can do for a team. Unfortunately we've seen it from the last two coaches.

The same can be said of a coaching staff. I have no idea what Riley is going to do here but let HIM not us pick his coaches. Live by Riley, die by Riley but at least allow him to choose his own people. The WORST thing he could do is to pick an assistant due to fan pressure--like we know what we're talking about:L

Maybe he's looking at coaches that would be loyal here for more than just one season :noidea:

Dan Van de Reit coming

Oregon State Beavers Associate Athletic Director for Football Operations Dan Van De Riet joining Mike Riley's staff at Nebraska | OregonLive.com

Van De Riet spent 14 years at OSU, first as the assistant director of football operations before being promoted to director of football operations in 2008. He was promoted again to his most recent role in October. Van De Riet was responsible for managing OSU's travel, budget, summer camps, bowl arrangements, other team events and overall day-to-day operation of the program.

Beaverblitz.com has also reported OSU director of player personnel Ryan Gunderson, who has largely organized the Beavers' recruiting, is also following Riley to Nebraska.

Meanwhile, receivers coach Brent Brennan, who has been mentioned as a possible member of Riley's staff at Nebraska, tweeted Tuesday morning that he was heading out on the road to recruit for OSU.

Wonder if that means that Jamrog is out of a job as well? I think he's our director of football ops.

I don't care if he hires his mother to coach the DL as long as he wins. If the wins don't start coming fast and furious then I will hold the door for him. 1 year to get things going, then the program better be at full speed and playing in Indianapolis in year 2. The talent is here.

This I can get on board with. Expectations do not need to be lowered for our program moving forward (outside of a possible transition year here). What I don't understand is people complaining about him being loyal to his staff. Coaches bring coaches with them all the time when they move to a new program. These are the people he's developed schemes with, planned with, and worked with in the past. What I REALLY don't understand is the comparisons to Pelini's friend-hiring practices. He hired a bunch of people he grew up with who had never held their positions anywhere else. I have yet to see anyone bring up any evidence that this is the case with Riley...just because he worked with them at Oregon State does not mean that he's just hiring his buddies.

The big difference I am seeing in his hiring old staff vs. Pelini hiring his bowling buddies is that all of the coaches coming in are bringing experience, both in coaching and in Riley's system. The point that caused the huge whine-fests about Pelini were about bringing in people who have no experience in the jobs they were brought in to do.
Riley is not doing that. Are they the best available? Probably not all of them, but they are all familiar with the system and there is little to no learning period for the coaches to get up and running. They should hit the ground running.

I am sort of disappointed that Hilary has not been brought over.

Basically the same post.

Pelini and his inexperienced cronies won at least 9 games and lost exactly 4 games. I now have much higher expectations of this staff. Ten wins minimum, plus Hilary.

As a Nebraska fan who cares about that program, I really do have a right to be concerned about who is assistants will be. It's obvious that we'll have to live by Riley, and anyone who says they aren't concerned by what is transpiring with his staff selection, is either blindly faithful, or wants to remain hopeful.

So the point you are trying to make is that you think you know who should be hired better than someone who has been coaching football since 1975? :bullshit:
