It will be interesting to see if Eric Hyman holds Joey Football to the same standards that he established for Stephen Garcia (no drinking, for one).

Did you see the article on ESPN? Sounds like he has some serious pre-Madonna parents, who just use him for his new fame. Not much a of a Manziel fan, but I kinda felt for the guy a bit, after reading this. In addition some believe A&M is taking advantage of JFF for promotions, meanwhile ignoring his psyche. Sounds like his younger sister is actually the one in the family with common sense.

Heisman winner Johnny Manziel's celebrity could derail the Texas Aggies season - ESPN The Magazine - ESPN

So Johnny signed everything, no matter how much he grumbled and cursed with a pen in his hand. Whenever he'd see his parents, they'd always have a carload of things to autograph. They hated it, and he did too. But they seemed compelled by manners, and obligation, and one autograph didn't seem like that big a deal. But taken together, they just boxed him in more: Even his own family wanted things from him. Whom could he trust? Over Easter, he went home with his girlfriend, a model. Her family showed him an online ranking of quarterbacks' girlfriends, according to Michelle Manziel. Johnny's girl ranked high on the list, which made him wonder whether she was with him for the reflected glory. Eventually he ended the relationship.

Idk why people are acting like they thought he would change after he won the Heisman. He was a douchebag before, it's not that surprising that he's still one.

Gotta disagree here.

The kid holds the highest individual honor in the world of college football - and he acts like an ass. I don't feel in the least bit bad calling him out on it.

He is reaping the rewards of public attention. He has no problem using it to hang out with celebrities; trips to New York; trying to Patton the name johnny football; And he will reap the rewards of becoming a millionaire if drafted.

And he somehow deserves a break from public opinion when he uses all this to his advantage and still acts like an ass?

There is a reason we didn't criticize RG3 and others before him when they won - And there is a reason why nobody respects this douche bag.

So, exactly what is the Heisman, and WTF does it have to do with JFF living HIS life? Is the Heisman an award for the "Best Behaved Player" now? Or is it still for the "Best Football Player"?

It is something OJ Simpson won.

I didn't say one thing about whether his play on the field deserved the award or not. Not the point.

Go ahead - take the award - use the fame for your benefit - and act like an asshole. Just don't expect us to stay quiet about it when you do.

He is not a normal 20 year old college kid. He actively and voluntarily chose to not be one.

Whenever he screws up, there is the legions of "leave the kid alone....he is just a 20 year old college kid...."

It is silly and disingenuine to try and frame him as just another normal faceless college student.

He chose to not be a faceless college student. He embraced the fame actively.

If he embraces all the perks, he has to being willing to deal with the backlash.

He can quit the team at any time and go be anonymous if he chooses.

2 things that really stuck out to me in that article....no wonder the kid has a problem....

His parents wanted to get jffmom and jffdad on their license plates -- Johnny F -- ing Football, as the name was originally coined on the A&M message boards -- so caught up in the mania that it took their 17-year-old daughter, Meri, to point out the bad example that might set for the kids who looked up to her brother.

Johnny and Paul have the same birthday. A family photograph that often gets pulled out shows Johnny as a boy caddying for Paul, and they look the same in the picture, down to the shape of the frown and the specific curl of the pinkie finger. Not long ago, backstage at a country music concert, the two Manziels hung out with some of Johnny's friends. There was Uncle Nate, a high school teammate named Bryan and Johnny's buddy Colton from College Station. Everyone stood around, the band warming up. Without so much as a nod, the Crotch Shot Ninjas struck: Paul punched Nate in the nuts, and, simultaneously, Johnny kicked Bryan and hit Colton, both in the balls, both at the same time, and as the three dudes doubled over and the band howled in laughter, Johnny and Paul gave each other a fist bump. Mission accomplished. They're twins, and proof that karma exists, which pleases Paul's mother immensely.

The only thing he's done that made me /facepalm was missing the football camp stuff, and then pretending like it wasn't because he was hungover.

That was him missing a commitment, and if I were an A&M fan I'd worry a bit when the partying gets in the way of commitments. Other than that, couldn't care less and mostly just quit participating in the threads about him.

I don't recall previous heisman winners complaining about their school or trying to garner sympathy because their life is soo tough.

Manziel wants the whole world to see how awesome his life is and he puts it out there then starts to cry when he doesn't get the positive spin or looked over for a parking ticket. He deserves all the scrutiny because its the JFF off the field show. He started it. Man the fuck up.

When has he screwed up?? Hasnt done anything really other than be obnoxious. Thats not the same as screwing up. If he had broken some laws, taken money, etc etc then OK but right now this guy is getting crucified for being a dipshit ( which while annoying is NOT "screwing up")

I could give a shit about the guy. But if he does work on the field there won't be much of a problem.

Before Heisman: 1) Getting arrested for stealing at walmart
2) Getting arrested for public intox and fake ID
3) Getting arrested for assault

After Heisman: 1) Missing the invite only Manning Camp
2) Lying to everybody about why he missed Camp
3) Throwing his team under the buss by tweeting to the world that he can't wait to get "out."
4) "Walk a day in my shoes" :bawling:
5) Complaining about publicity after going courtside, tv shows, golfing with celebrities, etc....
6) Showing wads of cash to the world, presumably won at a casino, when the NCAA highly frowns
on gambling.

** Screwing up doesn't just mean getting arrested. But if you need that, he's already done it a couple of times. He's moving on to different screw ups now.
