Huskers' Roby will forego senior season, begin professional career

Should he be picked, he would be the first Husker to be drafted since Venson Hamilton in 1999. Hamilton was taken in the second round that year by the Houston Rockets, but never played in a NBA game.

Roby's departure also means Nebraska is back to 13 scholarship players. After a frenzy of signings just before the regular signing period ended May 15, the Huskers were one over the NCAA limit while awaiting Roby's decision.

Nebraska will return one player who saw game action last season in junior Thorir Thorbjarnarson. Dachon Burke sat out last season to satisfy NCAA transfer rules.

Not surprised he is leaving. I’m assuming Hoiberg knew he wasn’t coming back when he signed to go over the scholarship limit. I have seen him projected as a 2nd round pick and that he impressed some people at NBA combine so figured was gone.

I'm on the fence with what he should have done. On one hand you assume that if he came back and worked with Hoiberg his draft stock would rise. But keep in mind it's a new system and 99% new teammates. There is also a risk that the team doesn't gel or play well together and pick up Hoiberg's system right away, Roby doesn't have the year he had hoped and his draft stock drops.

My guess is he made the right decision. Good luck.
