Meh, maybe all the kid needs is a change of scenery, he's still young and we don't have to wash any Oilers stink off him, let's give him a chance to see what he can do.
do the flames play Lazar the rest of the way? or was this a trade for next year
if he does well down the stretch ... probably Vegas bound no?

The Lazar deal reminds me a lot of the Baertschi deal. If he can pick it up even to the level Baertschi did Calgary'a got a nice third line piece moving forward. Nothing wrong with that.
When it comes down to it, Matt Duchene is a 26 year old averaging 60 points and 25 goals. If the ask, as reported, was a top young d-man, a first round pick and then some for a guy who's stats indicate second line centre on a Cup contender how many teams a) even have those assets, and b) of those, think a second line C is worth that price?Yep. Normally the Pens are big players at the deadline, but it just seemed like the parts weren't moving. I'd say Caps with Shattenkirk was obviously the biggest move, everything else was just complimentary.
Don't know about the Habs. They needed to get some better players, what did they do, pick up a bunch of over-the-hill 4th line guys? Not impressed.
I wonder what the ask was for Duchene in the end? I'm surprised; I guess Sakic thinks he can get more after the expansion draft, when teams might have some extra flexibility. I would've thought the desperation of playoff-bound teams would have outweighed that.

I thought Ottawa and Montreal were good possibilities for him, particularly the latter because I'm not as certain Price is sticking around as most are unless this team dramatically improves in front of him, but once Berg said Sergachev wasn't going anywhere that was pretty much it for them. Can't think of many other teams where that made sense.
Instead Montreal just picked up a bunch of filler.
I don't think the Pens had what the Avs needed. If the primary need is defence, Maatta just isn't good enough to facilitate that deal. From what I heard, Pens were willing to provide some combination of Maatta or Pouliot, a 1st, Jarry (very good goalie prospect) and one of Sprong / Guetzel. But what combination? Hard to know if Sakic was asking too much, GMJR wasn't willing to go high enough, or Sakic just didn't have that much interest in our guys.
Personally, I would have gone Maatta & Jarry plus one of 1st/Sprong/Guentzel happily. I think Duchene just addresses so much of Pittsburgh's forward needs. But I have a feeling Sakic wanted at least two from that last bracket, at which point JR said know. He has high opinions of both Sprong/Guentzel.
Shocked Montreal didn't overpay for him, or the Isles either. I thought one of them would have made an offer he couldn't refuse. Both desperate for some talent to show their stars (Price/Tavares) that they are serious. Instead Montreal just picked up a bunch of filler.

Still no regrets on that decision, especially since that was one of those blown 2-goal leads.
I didn't give a shit about the Oscars, but I probably would have broken something after the hockey game.

i think they said on one of the shows that 6 or 7 of the players moved were on waivers at some point this yearWasn't he on waivers yesterday?
He is hungry, that's for sure. That would be pretty sweet, obviously. All reports are (and I guess he just gave a interview on FAN 960 radio in Calgary) are that he is a great kid with a strong work ethic.
Wait, you can get value for Vrbata at the deadline?.
Woohoo! Montreal is the #4 loser! Go fuck yourselves Ottawa, St. Louis, and Iginla!Hockey News Winners and Losers...
NO. 1 LOSER – OTTAWA SENATORS
Look, we like depth just as much as the next guy, but that’s all it is, depth. Adding Alex Burrows and Victor Stalberg to your lineup is not exactly tilting the balance of power in the Eastern Conference. The Senators gave up what could turn out to be an excellent long-term project in Jonathan Dahlen to get Burrows, then signed Burrows to a two-year contract extension. Head scratch. But the real error, in this writer’s opinion, was dealing Curtis Lazar, who will flourish in Calgary after being almost ruined by the Senators.
Who knows if he will flourish (bit over the top methinks), I don't mind the move at the expense of a 2nd round pick.
