Happy the Wings got a 3rd rounder this year and a 2nd rounder next year for him. That's more than I thought he would bring in.

Brendan Smith was on the 2010 Frozen Four Wisconsin team with McDonaugh and Stepan. Maybe those guys put in a good word for him.

They got more value for him than TB got for Boyle.

Holland has made some very bad moves with the team's defensive corps the past handful of years, but this one was a rare win in my opinion. If he can flip Vanek for a similar bounty, I'll be feeling better about my team's future than I have since last summer's free agency thud.

Just seems weird as he wasn't property of any NHL club prior to Ottawa signing him, so he was an UFA. Why would he have to clear waivers to join the club?

I got in my car to go to lunch just as that segment was airing. It was literally this, and this is almost word for word:

Andi: Dregs, got any news on the Leafs for us?

Dreg: Nothing that I'm gonna tell you.

Andi: Ohhhh come on!

Dreg: Long-winded rabble about how the Leafs are in on "pretty much everything".

So he wasn't going to tell us anything, then they're in on everybody which means he has no idea what they're in on.

As far as I'm concerned, the Flames are still a few pieces away from being a Stanley Cup contender (and that's likely putting it mildly). Thus, I'd rather just roll with the goalies we currently have as I think they are good enough to make the dance. If they get bounced in round 1 or round 2, that's okay as some deadwood will be leaving the team and BT (if he still has a job with the Flames) can get to work on improving the team.

Only thing they should be trading for is a right d-man and unless the Isles put Hamonic out there for some reason I don't think one is coming.

If I'm not mistaken it dates back to the Oilers dynasty days. They Euro that they always wanted to sign late in the season. Other owners felt like it was a loophole in the waiver/trade process. Meh.

Signing euro players after a certain date now requires them to pass through waivers. I'm 95% sure that's how it works now. Given the trades Ottawa just made he's likely bound for Binghamton anyway.

It just dawned on me that with DiDomenico and Stalberg, the Sens need only sign Philippe Paradis in order to have everybody the Leafs traded to the Hawks for Kris Versteeg.
