Oh my
I think the only thing to do is cut off his arm and send it to Africa, Matty...
Oh my
Is it possible Belechick was able to hack into Wilson's headset and send in that play?
Honestly, I'm a little tired of the storyline "how did they call that one play?!?" I understand it looks like a bad play call and I was kinda surprised myself, but...
(1) They showed trust in Wilson. He'd gotten them there. You wouldn't expect it to be a struggle to execute a play there and if it fails, in most scenarios, they still have two more plays and you figure they score a touchdown regardless. Related to that, Wilson didn't execute! So he gets the credit when they win, but the OC takes the heat for his pick? Come on, he didn't see the guy jumping the route. He takes the blame on this, too. The middle of the field is the riskiest place to put the ball.
(2) The point of play calling is deception, so if everyone thinks you're going to run, in theory, a pass is not a bad play call. You should get some advantageous match up you can exploit. And frankly, the run game hadn't been that strong for the Seahawks. It was big passing plays that were winning the game for them.
(3) They aren't in that position if they don't collapse in the 4th quarter. Before the two TDs, Seattle had yielded only 31 yards in the second half. They seemed complacent on both sides of the ball towards the end. They had the air of a team that thought it had already won. And as the defense failed in the clutch, so did the offense. Two 3-and-outs totaling 3:10 possession before the final drive in the 4th quarter. They rattled off 4 straight scoring drives and then went limp. And penalties hurt them all game long. What the fuck was Doug Baldwin doing for his TD celebration? Pooping in the end zone?
If they hand to Lynch another time or two, sure, I agree they'd have like a 97% chance of winning. But I'd give you the same odds if you told me they were going to let Wilson throw twice, too.
Clubbing the OC is an easy answer (and I'm not saying it wouldn't be deserved either), but at the end of the day I think the Pats actually played the better game. And the Seahawks were busy chirping on the sideline and pulling down their pants for TD celebrations instead of staying focused on winning the game.
Sure, they should have run. But how in the world did they get in the position in the first place?
they were down by 4. it was TD or nothing.
to be fair (reported) they play was there.
Wow...how did I not know that? Hahah, sheesh. Still think I'd run it with an extra down then.
I think the sad part is that this game was fixed. Richard Sherman was signaling his team would only score 24 points with his hands early in the 4th quarter.
Lol. Yes, a pass may have been a bad play call. But a field goals certainly would have been the worst call that could have been made.
