So the Ray Rice video is out now and there is one person I know who is particularly upset by it, and will add his Ray Rice Jersey to the bonfire of Flacco jerseys this week.

For posterity's sake, this was his comment right after the suspension was announced and just before he proudly admitted to giving Ray a standing ovation at camp.

Did you see a video? Did she have marks! Noep. I bet she passed out. I bet he as a gentleman took the wrap. If he'd have hit her there would I've been marks. They would have arrested him. Cameras everywhere. No! He took blame to protect her.

In fact there are a lot of people now freaked out about it because of the video's release. Now they are mad at him. What the fuck did they think happened in there? He gave her a neck massage so wonderful she fell asleep?

They thrive on it. Don't you know it's a massive conspiracy to make everyone hate the good old innocent Ravens? They never did anything to deserve the scorn, it's just bad luck (and everyone else's bias) is all.

1) Now that the see the brutality and cold-bloodedness of it, can they change the punishment?
2) If they really didn't see it, what do they think happened in that elevator that warranted the lesser punishment?

And if they do change it in light of the video, doesn't that reek of "Bad publicity is worse than beating the shit out of a woman"?

I didn't think it would, either. Like the question I asked in this thread, earlier... how could they put him in their uniform and back on a football field? They would open themselves up to criticism that could've potentially crippled the franchise forever.

1) I don't know. I would think they'd be allowed to under a "new information" argument.
2) They have admitted that they got this one wrong. It would certainly be interesting to hear what was discussed though.

I think all in all though, this is the league's 'out' for correcting a past mistake. Assuming they can under the terms of the CBA, this is the league's chance to say "based on the new information provided..." and hand down a much harsher penalty. I'm not sure how far it gets them in the public eye, but acting would be far less damaging than not adding additional penalty.
